I’m pretty excited-I was offered the Dean’s scholarship which will definitely influence my decision on whether to attend, but I’m still going to wait on the other schools I applied to.

@meh1995 If that Dean’s scholarship will influence your decision wait until you get your full tuition scholarship letter for being a NMF. You should get it in March according to Northeastern’s scholarship page.

Thanks! Also I’m an idiot and didn’t delete the spaces in the original comment… sorry guys

Decision: Accepted - $20,000 Deans Scholarship

Objective:[ul]

[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: 800 Chem, 790 US History
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.75
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 12/406 (in top three public schools in the state)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), Chem (5), CompSci (3, hated that class), Lang (5), US History (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Calc AB, AP German, AP US Gov, AP Psych, and a mandatory finance class.
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Cross country - 4 years (captain), Track - 4 years (captain).
[] Job/Work Experience: Have a typical food service job.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Lot’s of little one time things and a couple programs, probs about 40 hours a year.
[] Summer Activities: Foreign exchange program. It was awesome.
[] Essays: One was probably good (the one about the foreign exchange), the other was probably alright.
[] Teacher Recommendation: One excellent, one standard.
[] Counselor Rec: I doubt she remembers who I am, so probably not great.
[] Additional Rec: Didn’t do one, because effort is bad.
[] Interview: Didn’t do one.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State: Missouri
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: White as they come
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Upper-middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None.[/ul]
Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Mostly test scores and class load, both of which are pretty high. My ECs are decent and show a pretty good amount of leadership.
[] Weaknesses: GPA is bit weak compared to my other stats. Lack of “outstanding” ECs.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: National Merit, global experience (which Northeastern is really into), my charming personality, test scores.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to all of the following: Alabama, MichSt, OkState, Emory, and Oklahoma. Waiting to be rejected by Stanford and probably getting rejected by WashU.[/ul]
General Comments: I loved Northeastern when I visited, but there are just a couple of things that made me select a different school (I’ll be going to Oklahoma). Firstly, Northeastern doesn’t have the big school spirit I’m looking for. Secondly, it’s far from home. Thirdly, it’s so expensive just to live in Boston, even with the full-tuition scholarship from National Merit. It’s a great school though and I wish everyone a ton of luck with their time there.

My D got accepted today with University Scholars Program (full-tuition) scholarship. We were so excited - didn’t expect a decision so soon.

Reflection
[li] Strengths: Well-rounded, lots of extra-curriculars and and doing well at an extremely competitive school academically[/li][] Weaknesses: My GPA could be hire if I had gave 100% effort freshman year. Came form a public high school and was transitioning to the change in workload.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Same as above
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Only Pitt so far.
General Comments: No Dean Scholarship/Honor’s Program, but still was still offered full tuition so I’m not complaining at all. Will make NE extremely competitive when I receive other decisions back.

When did you guys apply RD? Do they do more of a rolling admissions?

I sent in my supplement fairly early, my common app around Jan 15th, and my Art portfolio around Jan 25ish (I overnighted it to arrive at the deadline). I found out Feb 19th.

What I’ve heard is that they alerted the top applicants first (that’s why lots of results have honors/scholars/scholarships) and then it’s rolling admissions notifications following.

Interesting! All of my stuff went in 12/17/12 but I guess I’m not really a top applicant (1970 SAT, 3.75 GPA). I’m seeing “Thank you for applying to Northeastern University, we are looking forward to reviewing your completed application.” on the portal so hopefully I will hear soon!

Good luck to everyone! Last night I had a dream that I was brutally rejected from NEU and chastised by admission reps. Ha!

What they do is notify the top applicants first, and then on a single day towards Mid March, everyone else finds out

Decision: Accepted into Honors & $18k Dean’s Scholarship

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2250 (720CR 740M 790W)
[] ACT: n/a
[] SAT II: 800 USH, 730 Lit
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): ~4.0
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank, but I’m towards the top
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Eng. Lang. (5), USH (5), Chem (3), pending on Physics C, Euro, Lit, Calc AB & Bio
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):

[] Volunteer/Community service: ~100 hours/year volunteering with a therapeutic equestrian program
[] Summer Activities: 2 college courses at BU
[] Essays: Not the greatest.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I read one which was really great. Not sure about the other, but I’m guessing it was also good.
[] Counselor Rec: I don’t know her very well, so it was probably pretty generic - she does know my name at least.

Reflection

[ul]
[] Strengths: GPA, test scores
[] Weaknesses: ECs
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My GPA & test scores
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to UMass Amherst & Brandeis[/li]General Comments:
[/ul]

I’m happy I was accepted, but unfortunately my FA offer (even with an $18k Dean’s scholarship) is far too much for me to pay - my mom really cannot afford to help pay costs (the expected cost exceeds her entire income as it is) and my dad will likely contribute next to nothing to my education.

Decision: Accepted w/ Honors, Dean’s scholarship (CCIS)

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (M/CR/W): 2350 (750/800/800 + 10 essay)
[] SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.78 w/ upward trend (4.0 Junior and Senior years)

[] Job/Work Experience: Taught programming camps for two summers
[] Volunteer/Community service: Horizons summer program, Hospice comfort care
[] Summer Activities: Harry Potter conventions, playing in a band, programming and filmmaking camps. The usual!
[] Essays: Quite good, though not spectacular IMO.
[] Teacher Recommendations: Presumably great.
[] Counselor Rec: Ditto.
[] Additional Rec: Don’t think Northeastern got one.
[] Interview: N/A
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NY
[] School Type: Small private
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[]Income Bracket: Not reported, I don’t think.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Versatile musicianship? I linked to samples of my music. But probably none.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores, music stuff
[] Weaknesses: Lack of outstanding ECs (though they are kinda unique!), lack of demonstrated interest
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: The strengths, obviously. :stuck_out_tongue:
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Case Western, waitlisted at WUSTL, rejected at MIT. Still waiting on Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Harvey Mudd, Stanford, and UMich. Ahh, nerve-racking!
[/ul]General Comments: I haven’t thought much about attending NEU, but that’s because I haven’t really let myself think about this whole college thing yet. Once I get all my responses back, I’ll have to start deliberating. If it comes down to this and Case Western, I dunno what I’ll choose! :O

Reflection
[] Strengths: Essays & Rec
[] Weaknesses: Grades and SAT
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think they could see how much I wanted to go through my essay and my counselors second recommendation letter.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: A few other schools. The only one I’m somewhat considering is Simmons

General Comments: I didn’t get that much financial aid, but this is my dream school, so I’m thinking of anything I need to do to get through. Job, no eating (jk), loans (if I really have to). Also, my throat hurts from yelling.
