Wow, we have pretty similar stats. No letter, though.

1300 SAT (660M, 640V)
740 Writing, 730 Spanish, 610 Math IC
3.6 UW GPA

It was said somewhere earlier in this thread that NYU received 35,000 applications for 4,000 available spots... that works out to be roughly 11-12% acceptance rate, way lower than the 30% in past years. Is that right????

no, becuz u have to realize not everyone who gets in is going to go, i think about 60% who get in choose to go. the acceptance rate will be in the middle 20%'s this year i think tho

damn. I'll be rejected for sure. Hopefully UT accepts me.

So okay...I applied RD to CAS (wanted to apply ED but since my parents aren't willing or able to shell out $43,000--or $42,999 after financial aid, I applied RD).

My sketchy stats:
1320 SAT I (650V/670M)
750 US History
690 Writing
660 World History
640 Biology (E)
610 Math IC
560 Chem

92.8uw GPA/99.6w
Rank..top 8%

Lots and lots of clubs and work and service, as well as many leadership positions (it's late and i'm too lazy to write them all).

My point is: since I applied RD to CAS and I may not qualify for this year's standards, can I possibly be "deferred" to GSP? And, if I can, what do you think my chances are for any sort of admission to NYU (aka the only school I've wanted to go to since I was 11).

xanderman - if you were referred to GSP, you would have probably heard from them already

Xanderman,

Your stats seem more GSP like than CAS (assuming you're not a legacy, athlete, urm, etc.). It truly seems like many who were deferred to GSP are starting to hear already....but I'm not sure if everyone who got GSP has been notified at this point.

My take on this--its way too early in the game to tell right now.

I just got my rejection from CAS, but acceptance to GSP today. It's pretty dope. My stats were like

rank:129/950 (my school is really competitive because of the law in Texas where people in the top 10% automatically get accepted to state universities.)
SAT: 1280
gpa: 3.6uw/3.9w

I did a lot of APs and stuff. I didn't try as hard as I could have, but I had some awesome recommendations and I write a pretty mean essay. Oh yeah, I'm a swimmer, so the coach might have been pulling for me. It's pretty exciting. Maybe I'd rather be in CAS, but it's cool that I know I at least got in like a month before I thought I would. I don't think I reported my race, but I am white if you're dying to know.

I've heard NYU is a dope campus and most people seem to love NYC. Just one thing. Does NYC really smell like pee? haha

New york is a whole different world than texas. If you haven't visited the campus yet, you should. It's not for everyone especially if you're not used to the new york mentality and atmosphere.

I got my letter for GSP today.

Rank: 24/168 (competitive private HS)
SAT: 1300
GPA: 3.5 uw/3.6 w

I'm psyched about it! :D

how does GSP admissions work, exactly? I read the information on the official website, and it seems like GSP admits are basically the best of those that didn't get into one of the six 4 year colleges at NYU. But how would they know whom to select if they hadn't separated the acceptees from the rejects yet?

im not positive but my grasp of NYU admissions is that they do an initial evaluation of each application and decide whether its a definite in, a maybe, or a no. then they will go through the nos to look for people who have good qualities that they would like to have but not the scores or gpa, those people get invited to gsp. then they go through the maybe apps and decide whos in and whos not, im not sure if they offer any gsps to the maybes though

Does NYU send out their notifications on April 1st like everyone else? From this it seems like they already pretty much know who's in.

yup April 1st....so far away

Ahh I know!!
I'm heading out to the lovely NYU tomorrow afternoon (I live in Minnesota) for my musical theatre audition at Steinhardt

soooooo excited!!!

I'm really curious as to how my application will be evaluated, being that it is both by audition and academics...I know it's "50%/50%" but ya know. How much time do they spend deciding?

I'm a little wound up

no idea about that but good luck on your audition thats awesome

it seems to me that alot of people who have gotten into GSP have already found out. and in response to sdkyle, New York City is a whole different animal. If you are used to a rural environment that a place like Texas might give you, including the weather, people, etc. You might not fit in or feel comfortable in a place like NYU. The grey buildings give it a cold environment, the winters can get bitter, making it colder...and the people are the coldest. But i guess if you grew up near Dallas or Houston, you might be alright....but definately take a visit to NYC before you agree to anything binding.

"the people are the coldest"? i hope you mean literally

Is it just me, or do the majority of "acceptees" to GSP have around a 1300 SAT and a 3.6-3.7 UW avg? Seems like it

ya that or a little below, a lot of people said they had around a 1250 i believe
