I realize it is sort of late to ask for my chances, but I discovered CC recently and had difficulty getting on this site (I dont have online access at home)

about myself..

Race: black

SAT reasoning:2090 (M630 V670 W790) I was surprised at my writing score...
SAT II:Math2C 550(shouldn't have taken this)
World History 620
Spanish 800
French 800
APs: my school doesn't offer any APs or even honors
GPA: 4.0/4.0 unweighted (I'm not a nerd... courses are so easy that anyone can get straight As if they pay attention in class)
Rank: N/A
ECs:varsity cross country, 60hrs of community service... I'm in French Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and some clubs w/o any position, so my ECs really make me look weak
Currently residing in: rural area in TX
Hook: is being black a hook? but my stats are not very stellar compared to other stats I've found on this website. I speak 3 languages, French, Spanish, and English. I used to live in France when my parents lived together, and I learned Spanish from my Mexican friends (a lot of ppl are Mex in TX)
siblings? 2 (I'm the oldest)
parents: divorced (I live with my mother)

Comments: I currently go to a high school where going to University of Texas will make you a god/genius. Most students plan on community college or no college at all... it's really not a great place to study. I come from a low income family (I used fee waiver for all exams taken), so that's another disadvantage for me, I guess. My mom can't afford college, so she wants me to find a job after high school. But I want to attend college, and I'm wondering if I have a shot at HYP because they're supposed to meet 100% of your needs. I still have time to give teacher recs and all that if you can give me some sound advice ASAP. Forgive me if I can't reply to your posts quickly, because this is a public library computer and it's hard to go there all the time. Thanks.

if you can get SAT a little higher and hav good essays, I'd say you have a great shot. Especially when you're tri-lingual, and have done the best you can in the situation you've been given. good luck

PS- a lot of other schools will cover 100% of your financial need also, so if you are really low-income, you can try those schools too. With your stats, also look at Rice, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, Emory, etc. and other liberal arts colleges. These top tier schools will cover 100% of your need, so you should get full tuition if you get in also. So, don't be all "HYP or no college!" Apply other places also.

oh! make sure u write ur problems like $, ur school (not even honors? that sucks man), parents, living in France, having 2 siblings to take care of, etc., in ur essay. put everything into detail, which will compensate for ur poor ECs, then ur in, dudd.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I think I'll do HYP and some other colleges mentioned here. Man, those fee waivers are lifesavers. How can you guys afford spending like $75 per college?

And also, should I write a sentimental piece for my essay instead of offbeat or humor?

for essays, humor is always good, if you can master it. No toilet humor, use good judgement. If you write a sentimental piece, don't make it cliche like, "my grandfather is my favorite person because" with a typical answer. If you want to go the route that many people take, with commonly used answers, make sure your reasoning is good. I.e. If you do write an essay based on your grandfather, don't describe how he sits in his rocking chair, telling you stories about way back when... but I'm pretty sure you know that...

For your essays, it's best to write about your special circumstances. Everybody has one. But few will write about it because some feel that it's not what the admissions officer wants to hear. Use your essays to argue your case. It took me a long time to finally realize that.
