I have found myself in a weird situation. To preface, Stanford is my number one choice for college. I am taking the SAT Math II and the ACT in the next two weeks to add another test score (Math II) and to improve on my current SAT score (2320 superscored, a bit below average for an Asian). I am also a legacy of a graduate student.

Should I apply RD so I'll be able to send improved test scores, or should I apply ED to show interest (and maybe capitalize on my legacy status)?

Your October ACT and November SAT will both be late for EA. It is really tricky with Stanford REA as the rejection rate is so high. Your SAT1 score is great and you have legacy. So the chance at EA is not bad. But you may get an even stronger application with great SAT2 scores. I don’t think you need to take ACT anyway, but it is up to you.

Nobody at Stanford will bat an eye at your 2320. Hell, I doubt they’d even bat an eye at a 2200. Relax, focus on things that really matter (read: ESSAYS), and apply REA if you believe that your application now is as solid as it would be in December (and that doesn’t mean a slightly higher SAT score).

@lookingforward, I could post my actual application package, but then I’d guess this would turn into a chances thread. I do believe, however, that it is stellar.

On another note, is it possible for me to submit updated scores in the middle of the application review process? I’ll be able to get my SAT Math II scores (which I think I’ll do well on) in late November, but that’ll already be really late in the admissions process. Same for the ACT, albeit a week earlier.

–So you can see this needs your best and most comfortable decision. All of our hypothesizing aside, nothing wrong with a 2320, IF the rest of your package is strong. Sorry I was snarky.
