I also forgot to mention I am under regular decision II.

I'd say UF is a good match. If anyone tries to call you out on your SAT score on here, don't listen to them. A 1250 is a solid score, (I did a 1230, much lower GPA though) and I'm hoping for RD1. While RD2 is tougher, you stand as good a chance as anyone else.

That for sure will help him. Schreck, he is definately a qualified candidate URM or not, so I didn't see that as anything other than a little bit to push him over the top. If he gets in, it's because he earned it, not soley because of being a URM. Please don't act like that is his only selling point.

Anyways, I'm rooting for ya FloridaBoy2007, and hope to see you next year (If I'm accepted as well).

i wouldnt focus too much on the fact that he is african american. regardless of that his academics are suberb. His SAT score will easily be disregarded as a "bad day". They dont even TEACH that many APs at my school.

Although his hollistic is a little weak (you CANNOT even graduate from my high school without a bare minimum of 120 service hours), i think itll be shrowded by his grades and aps.

i don't think being african american will be an advantage in acceptance to UF because they don't seem to practice AA, but it will make a huge difference if he applied to top ranked private and some public schools like Mich or VA...i can guarantee you he would get into those schools no problem

well idk, i mean, i appreciate the support cuz it helps a lot. but, i am also retaking the SAT in January, what do you guys think i should aim for? and i hope to see you all at UF next year as well....and at my school community service hours arent even required, so 75 compared to zero is good, right? thanks a lot for the feedback.

Yeah...i wasn't too serious about that part guys (urm) But i do, indeed, think that he has a great shot. The number of APs is ridiculous....in a good way. I think you should be in no matter what.

Your chances at UF are excellent. I think you should apply to MIT too, if you're interested in engineering. I think you can get in there also. Good luck and congratulations on your achievements.

I also think you could get into an Ivy League school easily. I know a much less qualified minority who got into Duke so you should get into UF easily if the world is at all just. Even thought RD2 is apparently more competitive I'd think you'd get accepted regardless of race given your commitment to music.

As for the other stuff: As a politically active (I work on reducing poverty abroad) Floridian I can say that technically discrimination based on race isn't legal in Florida by executive order from Jeb Bush, so in theory that shouldn't play a role in his admissions. Nevertheless UF does seem to practice affirmative action/reverse discrimination/whatever-you-call-it based on admissions statistics.
