I'm a sophomore looking to transfer (only applied to Ivies). If I am not accepted at any this time, I'll be taking a gap year to spend time abroad. Would I be allowed to re-apply for a transfer even though I would have completed sophomore year? Thanks.

I can’t see why not. You’d be applying as a junior, correct?

Correct, I’ll be applying to enter as a junior, as I am doing now. I’d assume requirements such as Midterm Report simply wouldn’t apply. Has anyone else heard of someone doing this?

Yep. I almost did this. It’s perfectly fine, and can even work in your favor as long as you do it right. I’d recommend doing A) something extraordinary/unique that will really stand out on your app, B) something that you never could’ve done if you were in school, and C) something that’s relevant toward your intended field of study and/or career. Studying abroad, as you mentioned doing if you don’t transfer this year, is a good start but if you’re aiming for Ivies then merely going abroad isn’t enough - you have to have some significant accomplishments to show for it. Basically they will want to see that you’ve made the most of your time off and that it’s contributed to your knowledge, worldliness, and maturity in some way.

Good luck with transferring this year, though! To which Ivies did you apply?
