Re-Applying over a gap year?

I applied ED to Brown and was deferred, then rejected. I’m taking a year off between high school and college to do volunteer work in Israel. I’m considering reapplying to Brown over that year, but there are a few caveats to me doing so:

-I would have to give up my admission to Wesleyan
-UMich honors, my only other option, would let me defer my admission and reapply, but I’d like to go to a school that focuses on its undergrads

So, I’m wondering if you guys know of anyone that reapplied and got in or have any particular insight on my situation/my chances. I’m posting my stats below

SAT: 800 CR 760 CW 670 M
ACT: 32 (34 superscored)
SAT II: Biology-m: 760, World History: 790, Math II: 660 ← I took this twice to try to bring it up, but I got a 660 both times, even though the first time I walked in late.
GPA: 4.0 UW (my school has super inflation 10% of the class has a 4.0)
APs: 5 World History, 5 Biology, 4 BC Calculus, 5 Calc AB subscore. I’m taking Statistics, Environmental Science, Physics B, Psychology, Lit&Comp and Lang&Comp this year. I also took multivariable calc at a community college and an english class freshman year through Stanford EPGY
State: Michigan
School: Suburban public, not a feeder for anything except umich (it kinda blows, actually)
Gender: female
Essays: my book one ROCKED (guidance counselor said it was the best she’d ever read) My “Why Brown” ones weren’t as good–I had to rewrite and mail them after I was deferred
Recommendations: one (AP world) sent hers to a friend at Stanford to proof, the other from my BC Calc teacher explaining that I make stupid errors on standardized math tests but am sweet at calculus
Ethnicity: white jew
Academic awards: National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar
Extra curriculars: Co-president of Jewish youth group, qualified for fencing nationals and junior olympics, voice lessons + highest ranking possible at district and state level vocal solo festivals + various jewish choirs, drama club + international thespian society, varsity cross country (most improved), freshman and JV basketball, varsity skiing freshman year
Other factors: No legacy, I’m waiting to see my results from a national math prize that I think I did well on, I went to Brown fencing camp in the summer, met with an english prof who said she’d write me a letter of rec (i don’t think she did), I emailed and called the fencing coach to send me a recruitment form–he said he would every time but never got around to it :-/

I really love Brown and really really wanted to get in

Should I email Brown admissions and see if they have any advice for me?

I’m surprised you can’t defer and apply elsewhere at either of those schools. I have no idea if it will help you to take a gap year, but I can say that I know people who have taken gap years after being rejected and who were accepted the next year.

Awesome on going to Israel, btw. Going back for the third time in three years this summer.

My daughter is also considering. Does anyone know anything about the Bar Ilan program?
A lot of frustration this year with wait lists etc… We are still unsure about sending her.

I wouldn’t give up Wesleyan on the 10% chance you might get into Brown after a gap year. Wesleyan is a great school. Honestly – you need to move on. Take a gap year, go to Wesleyan – if you hate it, consider transferring.

You’re definitely in the range, but most likely you just for whatever reason didn’t strike your reader, and since you’ll be applying as a michigander again, you probably won’t strike too much of a different chord…

Hi, I am in almost the exact same boat this year - rejected from brown and in at Umich - but i wanted to know how everything went with you. How was your gap year? did you reapply? hope you had a good outcome!

a weskid once told me that the only people unhappy at weslyan are the ones that got rejected to brown.

i was accepted to tulane, deferred, and applied to brown again during my gap year (that i was planning on taking anyways). I got waitlisted. There’s no way whatever school you defer from will know you are applying elsewhere, even though technically not supposed to

But here’s the thing, and I’m not just trying to asuage your grief, Wes is A LOT like Brown. I’d say the main difference is less jock/preppy kids, and the small town setting.

Go to Wes. Don’t worry about reapplying in your year off. You’ll probably love it. If you don’t, apply to transfer. Remember, Wes is ranked like 7th of LAC’s, it’s got prestige too if you’re worried about that. I have a close friend who went to Wes and both Brown and Wes sounded remarkably similar – I almost wish I had gone there!!
