It definitely happens. My son is currently a lower @ Andover. He was waitlisted at PA, PEA and SPS two years ago and accepted at PA and PEA last year. He did not reapply to SPS. I can say that the admissions staff at PA and PEA both commented that they were impressed that he reapplied. The key point is to not simply reapply to but to take a critical look at where your application may have been weak and take steps to improve that area.

I’m reapplying to Deerfield, where I was waitlisted last year. I assume that this would help your chances, because it shows the school that you’re serious about attending, and that you would most likely attend if accepted (schools like to keep their yield rates high). Also, if your application improved, this shows your growth over a year, and this is a good way to gage your ability to improve yourself. I can’t say anything for sure, though, and I guess we’ll find out this Saturday!

@ballerina22 You raise some good points, like I’m reapplying to St. Paul’s because they waitlisted last year, which shows that at least they considered me, and that reapplying might bump up my chances because it shows them that I really want to go here. I also believe my statistics have improved, which might help.
