Re-applying to school that rejected me

So I applied to Wesleyan and was rejected (ED1) in my frosh application season, and now I am applying as a transfer from a school of similar merit (Grinnell) with a 3.9 GPA. I’ve done lots of efforts such as doing an on-campus interview, telling them that Wes is my first choice, and establishing frequent communications with the admission officer, but I still fear that my previous record will give me an unfavorable impact.
Does Wesleyan (or other schools in general) take re-applicants kindly?

Not sure if they do, but I think you should at least give it a shot and send it in if you still really love Wesleyan. A lot of times colleges want to see how you perform in college. I know one rejection I got in HS suggested that we reapply to transfer if we were still interested and that we could call the registrar’s office to plan credits. I say go for it. How were your HS stats?

Why do you want to transfer from Grinnell to Wesleyan in particular? It seems to me if you have a 3.9 GPA from Grinnell you could transfer practically anywhere. I thought I read Grinnell has tough grading and a heavy workload.

@rvalover7
here are my stats:

Current international Freshman, applying for East Asian Studies Major
No financial aid needed
Current University: Grinnell College
Current GPA: 3.9 (Straight A mid-term report)
ACT: 32
High school GPA: 3.9 Unweighted (Studied in an American HS in Conn)

College EC’s:

  • Started an East Asian Studies club at a school without EAS major
  • Student government member
  • Founder of a subtitle group with 300k followers on Chinese websites
  • Writing for an organization that promotes liberal arts education in China
  • Currently doing a Vlog series promoting Asian culture

Other:

  • Transfer excuse is legit; Grinnell does not have EAS/ Asian Studies major
  • Taking as many Asia-related courses as I can
  • Recs and essays should also be good; 2 recs written by Asia-related courses’ professors

@WelcomeWeek
Well I am transferring because of major issue, and Wesleyan is my dream school

@SunZhaoyu, I don’t think being a re-applicant will neither harm nor help. However, I am not sure that one semester of college will make your application that much different from last year’s, and your high school record will still be weighed heavily. Obviously the application pool is different so, anything is possible.

If you were on the brink of acceptance, then it might be enough to tip the scale in your favor. If you weren’t that close to acceptance, one semester is not enough to change the outcome.

@SunZhaoyu did you get your results?

@Dontskipthemoose
Yep I got accepted!

@SunZhaoyu congrats!!! Kill it in Middletown.

Congrats!
