Long-time lurker finally got the courage to open up an account :-h
Is there any benefit/advantage to reapply to schools that you were waitlisted from last time 'round ?
If you were waitlisted, go for it. Typically, the WL kids are ones who would do fine at the school, but there simply aren’t enough spots. You’re showing interest which is great. You’re a little older and more mature. You may have added some things to your resume, whether academically, athletically, ECs, etc.
Each year is different, though. The pool could be weaker this year. Or stronger. You may want to expand your list for this year based on what you learned. Would you be a freshman repeat or would you be applying as a sophomore? That could also have an impact depending on the school.
My DD and I attended a local gathering for one of the big named schools last year. They had 10 current and past students on a panel and the regional AO to anwser questions. Half of the panel had been waitlisted the first time around! The AO did comment on this. She said that she loves repeat applicants. That each year they have to turn away perfectly qualified students. Remember that the schools are putting together a cohesive class and each applicant pool is very different. She stressed that reapplying shows a stong desire to attend, as well as resilience. At this particular school each regional area had one AO. Without jobs shifting you would expect that same AO to read your new application. She said that she loved reading repeat applications because she gets to read more about the student the second time around. She can see their growth, new passions etc… It actually allows for the regional AO to have a greater connection to the applicant.
I’m sure each school is different, but I could understand her points. Approach your second time around as a way to show who you are now. Fill in any areas that you felt could have been stronger or more unique. And use it as a good opportunity to express your love for that particular school. Try and attend all local events- school fairs, school invites… My DD never interviewed on campus but met with this AO several times at the ten school alliance fair and 2 local events. (She got in) If you really want to attend BS make sure you look at some new schools as well. Good luck!
I have a question. If I was wait-listed when applying for 11th grade, would it be worthwhile to reapply for 12th grade ?. I understand that schools prefer that applicants spend more than one year.
@Laila11877 From what I gather from my lurking… is that more people would prefer to repeat the 11th grade, Not sure how beneficial just 1 year at BS will be… And college applications are pretty close for you…
My understanding is that most 1 year seniors are international.
