it seems that when i applied this year some of my grades from high-school where miscalculated (not by too much though...for about 0.20 on a 1 to 10). i am planing of doing the whole thing over again, to some of the same colleges (basically ivies and the sorts).
could they compare my two gpa's and think i'm trying to cheat? should i write to them explaining my situation?

also, would it be a good idea to change my essays and ask my teachers to write things differently?
not because they're bad or anything, but if the same people read them again, whether they precisely remember or not, the essays may seem familiar -> dull.

also, any other advice, things to change, would be much appreciated
thanks

That small change probably would not matter.

Did you not get into any schools? The 2011 year is probably the most competitive of them all and is the peak of the college applying population. You really couldn't have picked a worse year to apply.

got into cornell but no fin aid, and waitlisted at caltech and wustl. but looking back, i realize i completed the applications quite poorly. and also did a pretty bad selection of schools...like, vanderblt was my safety

peak year or no peak year, it's still very much a random process..especially for intl's

cornell says it gives need-based for intl's as well...ya, sure. i kno 3 people here who got accepted, none with fin aid. first time i called their office they said they never knew i was going for aid. the second they said they ran out of funds, or smthg like that.
