I know there is a lot of discussion on this board about the top prep schools, but does anyone have any input on the above two schools? Any siblings that have attended or friends. It is always good to get other people's opinions. Appreciate any input.

Have an acquaintance who played hockey at Brewster. She seems quite articulate. Excellent hockey program and other athletics as well.

There are many similar good schools in that neck of the woods. Do you have a particular interest that you are looking to address?

Yes boys hockey and Lacrosse. What do you know about Varsity Boys Brewster Hockey?

Can't help you much on the boys side as my D is the goalie. On the girls side, they seem to bring in a lot of Canadians from the Maritimes provinces. They are one of the more aggressive recruiters in girls hockey. Could bode well for a talented male athlete, I would guess.

Goalie Dad. What school did you D end up? I can't remember. I know we had corresponded before.

Check your PM, CA Sunshine.

I know Berkshire. I applied and got in; I've visited it and also gone to play an away game there (varsity volleyball).

It has a huge, very spread out campus that is quite beautiful. It's a very formal school and it seems to have good academics. The main school building is a bit in disrepair, but they have a top-notch athletics facility. Every team has its own gym, which is very impressive.

The school is right under a mountain, which was pretty cool.

As to Berkshire's facilities in disrepair, that is true. Although they are just kicking off a big multi-year construction and renovation program for the school's facilities. I believe the first item on the list is a new top quality ice hockey rink. Actually, there may be a couple other things that happen simultaneously but that is what we noticed given my daughter's sport.

brewster is known for basketball

Does anyone know academically how the school is?

Berkshire is building TWO new rinks, as well as several other new facilities, focusing on the arts and science. Beautiful campus and setting.

Sorry did I say Berkshire, I meant Brewster.

CA Sunshine - check your PMs

Brewster Academy is top-notch - definitely underrated. You must visit the campus to appreciate how amazing the school really is.

Stay away from Brewster.

Wait....aren't you the "stay away from St. Stephens" mom? Same child try Brewster?

Brewster boy's hockey plays Division 2 NE prep schedule
The hockey team seems to be middle of the pack in D2

No, my kid didn't go to Brewster, but we have friends who sent their son there. Also, I heard REALLY negative things about strict censorship of faculty- i.e. no "free speech" from a trusted educator at another school. He said it is a horrible place to teach.

Our s had a tour of Brewster in spring 2005 and the student leader who was giving him the tour told him not to go pick Brewster if he got in anywhere else which set off some warning signals to our s.

A school mate of my son's is heading to Proctor. We have it on our list to consider. Their outdoor program - especially their ocean exploration program lookds really great. Other than that I don't know much.
