re-evaluation of scholarship

My D got Excellencescholarsip when admitted. The final GPA now lower than 3.8. Will the scholarship be reconsidered and cancelled or lowered?

I have the opposite problem; I got the $5,000 a year but now I’m eligible for the $9,000 a year. I just assumed they wouldnt change it since all of the money has been given out.

grigorgn, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. This issue came up in a thread a couple of years ago. A student in a similar position called the admissions office and reported that

“I just asked, as long as a student who is accepted is admissible to IUB ( no D’s F’s, graduate high school successfuly etc.) the scholarships that student recieves will be awarded to that student. basically, in order for a student to maintain their admission and their scholarships, the student needs to successfuly graduate high school with no problems based on IUB’s standards. hope this helps.”

I know this student was from California, and that he did come to IU, so I am thinking his scholarship money was not reduced.

GPAs go down sometimes in senior year, especially with tough ap classes and senioritis, but if it isn’t a dramatic fall, I think it is o.k.

The thread is here
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/indiana-university-bloomington/139956-scholarship-acceptance-revoked.html

I had a 3.79 so i got the 5000, and after senior year i was at a 3.93. I am still on the 5000 scholarship, although i mailed my transcript to IU right after first semester of SR year was over. I heard near the end of the app process, even eligible people weren’t getting any scholarships at all due to the funds running out.

That’s right. I think it was February that they posted a notice on the admissions website that there were no longer any scholarships available. So for next year’s applicants, get it in early!

As recently the Fall 2008 admitted class, IU gave an applicant until February 1 to submit improved test scores and senior high school grades to improve their automatic scholarships, and it was posted on IU’s website and in the letter saying that you were admitted to IU. My son’s admission letter had a section

“Academic Measure Updates. If you retake the SAT or ACT in the fall of 2007, increase your high school GPA at the end of the fall 2007 semester/session, you can submit your improved measures to be considered for new or increased IU scholarships. All updated information must be received in our office by February 1, 2008, to be considered. You will be notified in March if you become eligible for new or increased scholarship funding based on improved academic measures.”

Since they are running out of automatic scholarship money much faster than in the past (even though the scholarships have not been around very long), the February 1 date for improving your scholarship probably doesn’t apply anymore. Tulare is right to say that students need to apply as early as possible to get these scholarships, especially when the economy is bad and a lot of high achieving in-state students are staying in Indiana and using the automatic scholarships to make their education more affordable. Fall 2008 was IU’s biggest in-state freshman class in ten years. 576 in-state students got $8,000 IU Excellence scholarships. When the IU Excellence scholarship was created, it was supposed to go to only about 400 new in-state students each year.
