I'll be visiting Georgetown shortly and was hoping someone could provide me with some information regarding the libraries on campus, and any other libraries within the immediate DC area that are decent places to catch up on some studying...

I'm pretty sure the campus libraries permit visitors, any decent (preferably pretty quiet) spots you can recommend? Also, any libraries off campus worth visiting? I looked into the Library of Congress, but I'm pretty sure you have to be conducting super research in order to enter the reading rooms...

Also, any decent places to park on campus/off campus, without being ticketed or towed? (I don't mind paying for parking.)

Any assistance is appreciated, have a great week everyone. :)

Do go to the Library of Congress. I'm pretty sure you can get in even without a card. Anyway, it took me like 10 minutes to get one so it really isn't that hard (they'll let anyone have one, I think). Anyone can go into the reading rooms with a card. I'm not sure about people who don't have one.

On campus, Lauinger is of course the main library. MMUG, a very popular student-run coffee shop, is on the 2nd floor, so you might want to check that out. Special collections on the 5th floor. And my personal favorite, the lower levels, where hardly anyone ever goes and all the ancient history + linguistics books are located :)

You have to have a LoC card to go into any of the reading rooms, but as Niomi said, it takes like 10 minutes to get one, and anyone above high school age (i.e. 18+) can get one. In most cases, it's not worth it to trudge all the way down there just to study. However, later in your academic career, you may need access to materials that Lauinger and the rest of the regional library consortium doesn't have. That's where the LoC comes in.

THe libraries I know of on campus are: Riggs /B; **Lauinger /B; **Blommer /B; **Dahlgren /B; **Law center library (direct free shuttle- but off campus); and a few minor book collections throughout campus. You can park in the McCarthy car carage (under the Southwest Quadrangle near the Canal road entrance) for a modest fee. Hope this helps.
