We have not heard a word about our status (assuming and hoping that our school is annoyingly one of those waiting until Wednesday for notification), however given a 230 in CA we are assuming all is well
? is: does one apply for specific scholarships or is it just a matter of completing the application and waiting? My S is applying to schools that don't really do much for NMS; so I was wondering about possibility for other scholarships

Since your son is not applying to a school that gives NMF scholarships there is nothing more that you can do.

The corporate scholarships are given to children of employees. Sometimes your employer has something to fill out if your employer is a NMCorp sponsor.

Do you or a spouse work for a NMCorp sponsor?

The NMCorp one time 2500 awards are given by NMCorp. No app for that.

Thank you
No corporate sponsor benefit for us
It will be an honor though

Unless you’re certain that you can pay for 4 years of college and have no concerns about adequate financial aid, why not apply to one or more schools that give a large NMF scholarship…just in case…as a safety?

A lot can happen between now and spring.

Thank you, this is a good idea…we have been considering adding one of those to the list.
Should that school be the one we list for national merit!?

You can be undecided all the way through May – so if you’re not sure, it’s probably better to wait until you can make a final decision on the first choice. Colleges won’t give aid if you don’t list them as first choice.

Lillypod,
Some schools require applications be completed by a certain deadline, in order to be considered for scholarships. USC , which offers both 1/2 tuition NMF scholarships and full tuition scholarships , has a Dec 1 deadline .

^for USC then, if you don’t get into the college, do you still have time to choose a different first choice school?

You can be undecided all the way through May

Some schools that only award a limited number of NMF scholarships need to be declared before that.

So…If you’re applying to such a school, name them within a couple of months…and then if you’re not accepted or the FA package is lousy, then name another school that awards to all NMFs (be sure to apply to one of those schools as well).

YES. You dont have to let NM know of your FINAL “1st choice” college until the middle of May, AFTER you have decided where to go for college.
