Re: Summer Information Session / Places to Visit on Campus

I am interested in applying as a transfer student to Johns Hopkins University and will be visiting the campus next Friday. In addition, I am also scheduled to attend a Saturday Summer Information Session and receive a guided campus tour.

This will be my first time visiting Johns Hopkins, in addition to the Baltimore area, and I wanted to see if there are any areas, offices, departments on campus that anyone more familiar the university would recommend to visit. Suggestions regarding interesting places to visit on the weekend within the greater Baltimore area would be helpful as well.

In addition, as a Transfer Student, are Academic Advisors available throughout the summer to review the transfer application and enrollment process? Otherwise, would anyone know of any other individuals on campus that might be able to answer some of my more detailed questions regarding transfer of credits, transfer housing, etc.?

Lastly, I am interested in visiting Krieger Hall (Cognitive Science) and Ames Hall (Psychological & Brain Sciences); would anyone know offhand if these departments/buildings are open during the summer, specifically next Friday?

Thank you for your suggestions and comments in advance! (I apologize for the lengthy post!)

Have a nice weekend everyone!

First, please know that you are visiting the campus over the summer and on a weekend. Classes have ended for the summer semester and are still three weeks away from starting for the fall semester. What that pretty much means is there is little to no faculty on-campus right now. The faculty that does work a bit over this break in semesters, typically are on-campus at the start of the week and never around on a Saturday.

Summer visits typically will include the chance to take a tour of campus and sit-in on an information session -- that's about it. Academic advisors will not meet with potential transfer applicants so early in the process, and especially at this time as they are quite busy with working with the enrolling freshmen regarding fall semester registration. Since the transfer application process is in the spring (deadline March 15, 2007), decision release (end of May 2007), credit transfer (June of 2007 if enrolling), there is very little information you will obtain during your trip aside from getting a sense of the campus and life at Hopkins.

As for time in Baltimore, I would strongly encourage you to visit the Inner Harbor.

Thanks Daniel, I can always count on you for a timely response.

I am also planning on attending the Fall Open House in October as well, therefore this trip will be more of a preliminary introduction to the university and the Baltimore area... :)

Thanks and have a nice weekend!
