Hello,

I got a 800 CR - 750 Math - 700 Writing 8 essay SAT the first time I took it. I'm a junior; this June will be the last test date before I start my college applications, so should I retake the SAT I or take 3 Subject Tests? I already have 790 Lit, 790 Bio, and just took Math 2 and US History in May. Thanks!

I've heard that colleges prefer Subject Tests to the SAT I...I'm applying to UCLA, UCSD, Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Brown, and NYU.

i would wait till may scores get released and decide then

the sat… as long as the sat 2s are over 750 your fine… if you got the sat to over 2300 it would be great … but a 2250 is still amazing

There is not a preference for subject tests over SAT; it is simply an issue of what is required or recommended. You really have little reason to take any more tests:

Colleges that require SAT subject tests require two and most use highest two if you submit more than two. Of those you list Harvard, Brown and MIT require subject tests. You already have two 790s. For MIT, the two must be a math and science. You already have the science score and have taken the math. In essence for colleges that require subject tests, you are done unless you intend to apply to Caltech or Carnegie Mellon for engineering. Both require chemistry or physics as the second SAT subject test in additon to a math.2; a biology does not qualify.

The UCs dot not require subject tersts but will be recommending them to some extent. The recommendation will be for two, not any more than that; if applying engineering it will be for math 2 and a science , which you alrerady have. Stanford is the same. It does not require but recommends two subject tests.

Johns Hopkins and Georgetown do not require but recommend three SAT IIs. No other college recommends more than two (Northwestern used to recommend three but now only two).

NYU gives you a choice of four options. You can submit SAT OR ACT OR three subject tests OR three AP scores. You have it more than covered for two options.

A 2250 SAT is very high and likely high enough. However, if you absolutely believe you must take another, it would be the choice to raise score, particularly math section, for MIT.
