Re-take the SAT before transferring?

I have my sights set on transferring to a prestigious university this coming fall and currently have a 3.71 college gpa from a community college with 56 credits. I believe my grades are competitive, but I took the SAT 5 years ago and scored a 1010 (I think that is equivalent to a 1500 now). The colleges I am looking at all require the SAT and I fear a low score will get me rejected. So should I take it again? I'm sure I can make a better score, but I don't know if it's worth the time, money and effort.

FYI I'm looking at Georgetown, Brown, NYU, Emory, Tufts, Northwestern, Virginia, etc.
PS My high school record (3.0) is pretty dismal as well.

If you think you could do a lot better then I’d say it’s worth it. I was in the same situation, and when I retook I improved my score by 360 points. Haven’t regretted it!

I’m in the same boat trying for Georgetown, but I’m a freshman have a 4.0 in college,3.5 in high school;
scored 1050/1600 first time =/
just retook them today so I would say its worth it

I never took them in HS so I’ve been taking them recently, today being the most recent. I think it’s worth it as it can only really help you. Give the ACT shot a too, they’re both completely different styles of testing and you may be considerably better at one.
