I was told that If I received my bachelors degree I could no longer use the credits from that degree to go back to school. For example if I wanted to go back to college to get an associates degree I would have to start over and do the two years because the other credits would not carry over. Is this true?

It will depend on the place where you earn the first degree, the place where you want to earn the second degree, the original courses taken, and the requirements for the second degree. If both places have full regional accreditation it is likely that most (if not all) gen eds will transfer, leaving only coursework specific for the major to be taken.
