REA Class of 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

The first time I visited the campus, I got Panda Express. :slight_smile:
If we get in, we should arrange a time to eat at Ike’s!

@BIGZB17
My intellectual vitality essay was about memories and my “what matters to you” essay was about self-expression.

@Bigzb17
my intellectual vitality essay was both generic and very unique. i took a generic idea, a cliche idea and made it really personal and gave examples and stuff while showing passion.
my fav essay was the roommate one: i made it kinda funny and “out there” casual talk while showing hints here and there of my passion for stanford
what matters to you and why one was tricky as i thought it was most important esp if you talked about one of ur EC’s or service activites and u had to sound genuine so i made it one of those “on top of the world, i can do anything i want” attitude ones

i know im really descriptive above^^ hahah sometimes when i love a essay prompt, i get pretty attached to it as writing it is like art, its a craft…one that i hope i sell to the right people ;)

I think we’ve officially established an Ike’s date.

You guys are awesome.

If all goes according to plan, 0.33 of us will be able to make it!

you guys wanna make a pledge/pact thread like they do in the harvard/yale pages? a pledge/pact to post our ECs/stats/info on the official results thread whether or not we make it or not… (and who knows it could be useful for copy and paste to other college’s results threads haha)

my essays used to make me proud
now i read them and they suck
lol

Basically. I liked my essays, but my mom just read all of them.

“Well?”

“Mhm”

“Mhm?”

“Hm”

“Oh”

“Mhm”

Yesssss! To those of us who get in, a thread for the official Ike’s CCer date must be created!

@matrixsurgeon, that’s how my intellectual vitality one was too!

And I’m in for this pledge thread.

my parents reaction was even more lukewarm than what i feel now
i guess the winds of my humor blew right past their heads

but that’s expected for non-native speakers i guess

“It used to be that every application would be read twice. Now, only one reading is guaranteed, although—thanks, Mom and Dad—every legacy application still gets two sets of eyes.”

[Stanford Magazine - Article](<a href=“Stanford Magazine - Article”>Stanford Magazine - Article)

On the topic of essays, I’m kicking myself right now because I literally just came up with a much better topic for Common App than the one I’ve been using for 2 months. Welp, replacement time. Common App essay was a bit too generic, I thought, but I liked my supplements and a few people I’ve had look over them said they really enjoyed reading them.

Really wish I had thought of this new topic several months ago though, because I really do fear that my first CA essay was just too boring.

Also, legacy. Haaaa. Too bad I live thousands of miles away for any family to ever attend Stanford.

@Aegise

Haha that is ingenious! I should do that as well

waiting…

Once college application season is over (around May 1) I’m probably going to post all my essays (Stanford, USC, Yale, and Harvard) somewhere for people to read. Even if I don’t get accepted maybe it will inspire and help others writing theirs in future years.

Also just out of curiosity, where did you guys apply to as a ‘safety’? And have you already been accepted there?

@Brogrammer17, this is the REA thread. Public colleges?

@brogrammer17, ill probs keep my essays unless i get in somewhere good and ill release essays just for that. applied to state school and Will apply to one more for “Safety” purposes…but i wont find out till like start of jan and march…

I was asking if you have already been accepted to your safety school. For example, some schools have like a three week notification on rolling admissions. So if you applied, even after you submitted REA, you would still already know.

Just out of curiosity which essays did people choose for the CA?

I’ve applied to 4 UCs (including Stanford’s favorite) and another state university on the western seaboard.
