what’s honors gym compared to regular gym

@Bluetyphoon
I am actually not in a AP/IB school. My school is an early college so its full honors and then Dual enrollment. I take my up-to 21 (max num allowed ) classes at a local university. The professors that the high school allows us to take the classes in are the best at the university (tons of research and doctorates haha) so its a different experience… first two years=mostly honors high school classes with upto 3 college courses, last 2 years=full college courseloads 14+ creds/semes math,science,english, etc. Don’t worry too much about each and every applicant’s school differences cause obviously some people here might have gone to private elites while others rural small high schools so I think as long as you kill in your environment, which it sounds like you do, ur fine ahha.

but yea, in a way im happy i don’t deal with AP/IB exams but at the same time, not really excited about finals which start next week hahahah

Youthisreadwrong: Its regular gym! just an honors credit.
my five words were actually…
Biological
Restless (literally and figuratively)
Inquisitive
Tenacious
Eclectic

B.R.I.T.E. I had too :P

@BlueTyphoon

hopefully they pick up on it.

Snowstorms where I live…I had like 3 different club competitions and events between now and the 13th and they’ve all been cancelled. I need something to distract me for a few days.

@YouThisReadWrong

My first three words were about how great I am, and my fourth and fifth words were “humble” and “sarcastic.”

matrixsurgeon: Ooh, we don’t have any schools like that around here. Or at least I don’t think so. Other schools have more duel enrollment, but I think it’s just a side thing unlike how it’s basically your main curriculum.

thats actually good

why do they do the 5 words???

@aigese yea, i don’t think early colleges are pervalent in alot of states other than NY, NC, TX, and CA. Those states have the most early colleges…its a unique system yea…

Im gonna call YouThisRead Wrong WTRW from now on

@WTRW i guess its a common question that is used in most job interviews, college interviews, etc and I think they are trying to test the expressive sides of us?

I figured tons of people would try to do something semi-humorous to stand out, so I did my best to list 5 serious (though not boring) adjectives. I let my sense of humor show through in the essays.

And I would be careful in saying that people who think they’re getting in don’t get in. People who approach the entire process having been told throughout their life that they’re brilliant and invincible are likely not to work hard enough on their applications to gain admission. I wouldn’t dispute that. People who have worked hard throughout high school and the application process to show Stanford their best selves and believe that they have presented a profile worthy of admission are another matter, however. Right now I’m optimistic, and I would argue that you all should be too.

For my roommate essay, I partly talked about much I loved Breaking Bad. I also said that if we ever became friends, we should visit Albuquerque.
:D

But I’ll never forget the guy who wrote the satirical essays to Columbia. THEY WERE THE BEST! It’s really too bad he got rejected.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/1269288-read-my-unconvential-columbia-short-essays.html

@SushiCat
If we become roommates, we’re going to Albuquerque. I live two hours away from there. Haha
Also, those essays made my day.

Wow, those essays. Hilarious, but I can see why they were rejected because I was half cringing as I read them.

I wrote my roommate essay about mass media in general and how tv shows/movies/etc take over my life and I have to marathon and draw fanart for each new obsession. Whoop I really hope I didn’t come off as someone who would watch tv instead of doing homework.

Why WTRW and not YTWR

@matrixsurgeon

So I made sure that I mentioned my art in all of my essays at some point, one essay is on the topic of art, and the elaboration on an extracurricular activity was about my annual volunteering in a hospital’s art studio (for patients/families to try painting, origami, etc). And my visual art supplement.

I /really/ hope that catches their attention because if they don’t like my art, then my app’s bust.

the best five words i’ve read was like
skin bones muscle fat blood
or something like that

@aegise, the statistic may be pretty intense, but considering that only 50 are in the top 10% and only a small percentage of even that group are qualified enough i’d say that there were probably only ~20-30 out of the total 80 who even had a chance anyway

Half cringing at the Columbia essays? Try this one: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/1269294-rate-my-unconventional-roommate-essay.html
Ugh. The euphemisms only make it WORSE. (apparently it’s the same idiot/genius poster)

What I did with my app is to make it sound like I was the least stereotypical Asian ever. I think my plan will fail because I put CS, the #1 major at Stanford, and I’m applying from California. Wooo. The bright side is that the really good students (aside from me of course) from my school did EA for other schools, so less competition somewhat yay.

Oh, and my parents are making me apply to UPenn if I don’t get in Stanford. “Another chance for a top school!” they say. Pretty sure all the UCs have a stronger CS program than UPenn, so lol (although they have a pretty interesting NETS thing).

I’m seriously contemplating deleting the email and waiting for thin/thick letter. I want to know earlier, but I’m scared :x.

a friend of mine wrote their common app about sitting on the toliet… idk if it’s as unique as it was a few years ago

@Aegise

My school has an IB program and it’s set up the same way as well! Not to mention we barely get any sleep either…

@bluetyphoon @killbeefgoham
Childish gambino is sick! But I’ve gotta say, Hoodie Allen is my absolute favorite.
