REA Class of 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Dear future applicants to the world’s largest Mexican restaurant,

First of all, the fact that you are even considering applying to this school says something about your character. You are certainly motivated and ambitious. You are most likely intelligent and hardworking. You might even be attractive. People have probably told you these things throughout your entire life. So why should a bunch of worried teenagers be telling it to you now?

Because it’s true. Looking at the posts in this thread may convince you otherwise, but you must remember that elite college admissions are not indicative of future success, and certainly not of future happiness. Look at all these dedicated scholars, star athletes, world-class musicians, amazing artists, and great citizens who didn’t get into this school. Are they condemned to a second-rate future because of the decision of some mystical tribe in Montag Hall? No. They will go on to do great things for great causes. And, we would presume, so will you.

Stanford is not life. It is an institution that is made up of the people… If you are a true person you will excel wherever you go. It’s not the institution that makes your career it’s who you are that makes a difference. Anything can happen in the lifetimes that we live in and in the end those changes and our human desire to improve ourselves will always take precedence… Keep this in mind and realize that stanford is a single branch in a tree that is ever growing…

As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, the college admission process is a matter of luck. Your life’s dreams shouldn’t be forever shattered simply because of the admissions board’s hasty decision based merely on test scores and a few short sentences. While it may be tempting to just bawl your eyes out or curse affirmative action with your rejection letter in hand, realize that self-pity is not what made you the accomplished person who you are; your passion and dedication are. And regardless of where go, continue to pursue your interests with greater zeal than ever before because that, not the prestige of some university, will bring you even closer to accomplishing your dreams.

Love,
Accepted and Rejected Stanford class of 2018

Guys guys. I think it will get too long if we keep adding on! Plus. If anything it’s more effective once we know that we got into other prestigious schools as a real life example that they WILL survive rather then just telling them they will when we have yet to suffer rejection or experience acceptance to Stanford ourselves! Good idea, just too early!

That’s a valid argument, but I thought it was a good idea to do it now because it will be the first thing people see when they look over the 2018 results thread (which hundreds of people will do next year). I guess it would be better if there were a committee of Stanford rejects who just graduated from schools that they grew to love.

Is anyone clear on the actual notification date and time? I’m reading everything from the 13th to the 16th on this thread.

Can anyone else confirm?

The only people who know are the Stanford admissions people, anything people say is just speculation based on the results of prior years, we will only get confirmation when they announce.

@BIGZB17 Thanks for offering to take me to ABQ! If we both get in, I won’t forget it!
:)

post it in the beginning of the results thread

as like a preamble

@basicspace
I read what Saugus wrote for his roommate essay.
" I had the misfortune of suffering the ramifications of consumption of food from Taco Bell." LOL!!

That’s the intent, YTRW. Something to reflect on before the chaos of the results thread ensues.

I know this preamble is meant for the people of next year, but I feel better and more reassured right now because of it. Thank you.

The financial aid department weboage said that financial aid packages will be announced on the 13th so I think it’s safe to say that decisions won’t be released on the 16th

That date on the financial aid website is specifically listed as “approximate.”

Actually according to “applying for aid” stanford website which has deadlines and dates for all financial stuff,

Award letters for on-time applicants Restrictive Early Action Applicants will be available starting on:
December 15,
2013

It’s time actually to take a deep breath and relax.
Then keep working on your applications
for more school. Stanford most likely will admit about 12%, defer 10%, and reject 78% just as it did the past years. Dont feel sad if you get deferred, since you will have higher chance than the RD pool applicants to get accepted if you still want stanford. Otherwise all of the REA pool boys and girls will be accepted by other top schools, Guaranteed. Since the early pool guys are all super strong. Everyone will be doing OK. Remember only a very small number of early applicants will be accepted. Good luck.

Is everyone’s parents supportive of them? Even after I told my dad I applied he still doesn’t like it. He said even if I get accepted that I should go to a cheaper in state school. I only see him once a week but it’s still hard to not have the support. Can anyone else relate?

@ Brogrammer17, yeah I can relate to that somewhat. My parents are supportive by my grandparents for some reason are not.

For people who are interested in expanding the “letter to applicants” that was started above, you can try this Google Form I created for it:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11jarERmCF8__3-Sb7U9Uy0Ig5ow7ivNwe-PNlygqcc8/viewform

Also feel free to add suggestions on improving it.

My only advice is to capitalize just the first letter of the title! ;)

@Bioprogrammer
My mom is very supportive. She convinced me to apply, even though I didn’t think that it was worth the try. But like all things, you never know unless you try!
My dad doesn’t care.
