So, I am in quite the dilemma. I really want to go to Stanford! If I apply REA I'll have a 4.15 Gpa because they don't look at senior year. But it has almost double the acceptance rate(13%) of regular decision(7%). I recently had a tour there and an admissions officer proclaimed that the REA applicants are usually stronger than the regular. And here comes the dilemma, if I applied regular decision, I project that my GPA will be 4.41. So which should I do, apply REA, a 13% acceptance rate, with a 4.15 gpa in a pool of applicants who are strong, but there are only 5,000 applicants. OR apply regular decision, a 7% acceptance rate, with a 4.41 gpa and with almost 30,000 applicants.

What are your grades like?
Your weighted GPA is really a useless figure. If you’ve got solid grades, you might as well apply now. If you have average grades and are planning to get straight A’s your senior year, might as well wait.

My UW is 3.85- almost all As, some Bs. But if I wait for regular decision, it will be 3.87 UW- As and Bs again. Sophomore Grades, 1st semester: 4 As, 1 B, 1 C+(hard class, still was one of the top students, counselor will talk about it rec.) 2nd semester: 5As, 1 B+(in the class I got a C+ in) . Junior Year: 7As, 4 ap classes. both semesters. And senior year I am taking 5 ap classes, 1 regular, I will most likely get straight As because these classes are easier for me than the ones Junior year.

Wait until RD. Early action at any of the top universities is extremely competitive. There really is no EA boost at a school like Stanford. The higher acceptance rate is due to a variety of factors (recruited athletes and legacies getting accepted, for example), but those factors do NOT include lowering admissions standards just because someone applies EA. So if your app is weaker in the EA pool, your chances for getting are actually lower.

You phrased that very well! thank you for this insight!
