The title is kind of wonky, but basically I wanted to know if I could still attend a school that I got accepted to, but then wrote an email saying that I would be going to another school. What had happened was, I got accepted to a couple of schools for this upcoming Spring semester and eventually I submitted the tuition deposit to the one I liked the most. However, after thinking about it and talking to some people, I thought that the school I submitted the tuition deposit to was too far from my family and that I should go to a closer one. So I called the admissions office and wrote an email saying that I wanted to withdraw my acceptance so that I could put in the deposit for a closer school I got into. I’ve now submitted the deposit to the closer school, but after thinking about it even more, and learning more about the closer school, I now want to go back to the original school that I put down the deposit for. I wrote the letter saying I wanted to go somewhere else Friday morning, 12/9/16, and could contact the admissions office for the original school saying I regret my decision to withdraw my acceptance by Monday morning, 12/12/16. Do you think there’s a chance I could still attend the original further away school? I know the way I’ve handled this has been pretty indecisive and dumb but… yeah… so any advice would be appreciated.
Call the school and ask. Nobody here will be able to answer this.
agreed. it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask
They want your tuition, so I would think there is a good chance you will be fine. However, you need to talk to them, we can’t possibly know.
Yeah I guess you’re right. Btw the closer school is SUNY New Paltz, but the school I realized I’d prefer to go to is SUNY Oneonta. I’m going to send an email and call the admissions office first thing in the morning. Hopefully they believe me when I promise not to change my mind again this time …
^^^^maybe offer to send in a deposit immediately.
Hi. Just a quick update. The school I applied to first, SUNY Oneonta, said that I was all set to start attending this fall. My advisor said that she hadn’t formally processed my withdrawal and that it was ok to still attend. I think letting them know I wanted to withdraw my withdrawal so fast is what helped. Anyway, as of right now I’m happy with how things turned out. So just in case anyone wanted to know apparently you can go back on the decision to withdraw acceptance to a college just so long as you act fast enough. Thank you to everyone who responded.
Glad it worked out the way you want.
OP, I think you acted quickly and it worked out for you. There is a good lesson here for other students: don’t act impulsively. Unless a decison needs to be made immediately, it’s best to sleep on it and talk it over with someone else if possible. And also, don’t be afraid to admit you made a mistake. You weren’t afraid to pick up the phone and call, and it worked out. Good luck, OP.
Thank you. Yeah i feel like my choice to withdraw and go to another school was made for bad reasons, and rather impulsively. Part of it is because I was afraid of the deadline to choose passing by so I felt pressured to make a decision as soon as possible. I also think I didn’t fully understand what it means to commit to a college. Like Lindagaf said it’s something you should do only after you really think about, and are sure it’s where you wanna go. You definitely don’t want to do it on a whim.
