Reach/Match/Safety Suggestions

I am currently a junior and a Cali resident. I also plan on going into medicine, and suggestions can include both UCs and out of state colleges.

GPA: 3.9 or 3.95 weighted (Depends on what my second semester grades are. I also did not count non-academic classes such as orchestra or sports.)

Also I'm taking five APs next year which may boost that weighted GPA.

SATs: 2100/800/750

I plan on retaking my SATs this June and next year so scores could be higher.

Honors Courses: 3

AP Courses: 8

ECs: Violin, Basketball, Tennis, around 100 hrs of community service, and hour upon hours of work experience

UCB-Slight Reach
UCLA, UCSD-Match
All other UCs-safeties

Johns Hopkins since you plan on going pre-med.

Well, Johns Hopkins would be a reach school for me right?

Anyone else have any input?

Are you interested in continuing with your violin studies as well as pursuing pre med?

Well, your title says "Reach/Match/Safety Suggestions."

Based on USNEWS numbers

Reaches: Top 15
Safeties: 30 and above!
Matches: 16-29!

!:D

My 3.9/3.95 weighted GPA is actually good enough for those schools? I thought that my weighted GPA was pretty low.

Weighted differs from school to school.

If you are in the top 5%, have the hardest courseload, and your 3.9 UW, then shoot for the stars--you have the stats to get into ANY college. You don't need perfection for top 20's, just excellence, passion, and personal flair (essays, interview, etc).

I think both 3.9 and 3.95 refer to his weighted GPA, but with different ways of calculating it. His unweighted is probably significantly lower, maybe around 3.3/3.4. If this is the case, I'd put UC Berkeley and UCLA as reaches, with UCSD as a good match.

What exactly is your unweighted GPA?

Yeah, around 3.3/3.4.
