Could someone define these terms for me? Is a match someone that falls within the ranges? or is that a safety? In termsof Naviance, is a match outside the box onthe scattergram?

Reach: Your profile puts you at the lower end of their admissions range OR it is such a top school that no one is guaranteed admission (HYPSM etc)

Match: Your profile puts you well in the admissions range.

Academic Safety: Your profile all but guarantees you admission.

Rock-solid Safety: Your profile grants you automatic admission.

The best description I know:
Super Reach: Acceptance rate (AR) < 15%
Reach: Your SAT < 75% SAT at that school or AR<20%
Match: SAT >75% SAT, Your GPA> avg GPA; AR 20-30%
Lo Match: SAT >75% SAT, Your GPA> avg GPA; AR 30-40%
High Safety: SAT >75% SAT, Your GPA> avg GPA; AR 40-60%
Safety: SAT >75% SAT, Your GPA> avg GPA; AR >60%

And… a safety school is one that you can afford to pay for out of pocket, with assured scholarships, grants, and/or small loans.

A school cannot be a 'safety" if you can’t afford to go there.

Look for a safety where you can be happy. Your may be attending there in the fall.
