reached aggregate limit

I am currently enrolled in school and I have reached my aggregate limit on stafford loans. I have classes that start on 06/06/11 and I assumed that I would be getting a pell grant but I talked to financial aid and they said that my financial aid had to be reviewed manually and if I have gone over my maximum that I would not be eligible for a pell grant. Is this information accurate.

How long have you been in school, how many credit hours have you finished??

What you have described is becoming an increasingly common scenario as the government is moving loans to various servicers. Students who are at or near their aggregate limits are suddenly over due to the way consolidations are being entered into the government system or because of the way one particular servicer is making interim changes. Your aid office will be reviewing all of your loans to determine if you did indeed go over your max. If you did, they will let you know what needs to be done to resolve things & regain your eligibility for a Pell grant. If you received a loan this year, they may be able to repay the overaward now & you would owe the school. They may also tell you that you have to reaffirm your debt with your servicer. Or they may determine that you did not go over. Hang in there … manual reviews can take a bit of time, especially during this busy season.
