Reaches/Matches/ etc... Help?

<p>I've changed some of my choices of places I'm considering applying to this winter... do I need more safties?</p>

<p>GPA: 3.55
SAT I: 2050 (will retake in Nov.. maybe 2200 if I study)
(Taking SAT II in Oct.)
Expected to have good reccs and essay
Rank: Not positive, about top 10-15%
Classes: Taken most challenging classes available plus half of my credits junior and senior year at local junior college
EC: 4 years on highly competitve cheerleading teams, a state title, 2nd place nat'ls
Internship with local state representative
3 years working with Salvation Army in the winter
6 years voice lessons and recitals
Summer working at local kid's store
Summer abroad learning Italian in Italy
Breakdancing and hip-hop classes at dance studio this year</p>

<p>Colleges I'm looking at:
Boston U
Occidental
Pitzer
UMich - Ann Arbor
Penn State
U of Wisc - Madison
Colorado College
Bard</p>

<p>Should I bother applying to UMich? I'm not in-state, I live in MN. Help me decide where I should bother applying to.. Thanks!!</p>

<p>Michigan is a definite reach for you. Your GPA is very low for their standards. Their 25-75 percentile for GPA is 3.6-3.9, and your 3.55 is lower than that. You are also OOS, which means you should be on the top end of that. The bottom 25% is usually for in-state students, as well as athletes, URM, legacies, etc. </p>

<p>I'd say BU is a reach for you as well. Your test scores are right in there for all these schools, but it's the grades that are the most important. Your ECs aren't that strong either. </p>

<p>I don't think you need more safeties. PSU is basically a safety for you.</p>
