I was admitted to a D3 school where I had filled out the recruiting questionnaire, reached out to coach during process and never heard back.
I am now deciding between this school and another that does not have my sport. Both are great, will cost me about the same and I am torn. If there is a chance of making the team, that would make me more likely to attend the D3 school. Would it be ok to email the coach and ask about the possibility of making the team? Also, I got an invitation to a recruited students reception at admitted students day. Does everyone get those, or could this mean coach might be interested?
Thank you.
Yes. Reach out to the coach. See what he/she has to say.
Absolutely reach out to coach. My daughter did this after being accepted to a D3 school, and coach was very receptive.
Thank you. I was afraid it might seem rude and they might be overwhelmed with requests.
It’s in the coach’s best interests, too! If you can be an asset to the team, then they’ll definitely want to hear from you and they won’t be able to assess your fit to the team without further conversations and at least an invite to try out. Plus, it’s there job.
Don’t be hesitant to ever advocate for yourself. As long as you are polite, 99.9% of the time people will be receptive.
Definitely reach out. My S contacted a coach at a D3 school several times without a response. It wasn’t until he emailed the coach that he had been accepted that the coach responded and invited him to visit. By that time he had decided attend another school where the coach showed more interest. It’s possible that at some schools they don’t really do any recruiting and build their teams from whoever is accepted.
