Has anyone read any good books lately? Can anyone recommend any good books?

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Great Book.

Jer0d

I'm reading 1984.

I think it'll be one of my favorites. Although the subject matter is similar to Brave New World, it's much better (in my humble opinion).

I like the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde, and the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. (The Vicky Bliss books by Elizabeth Peters are good, too.)

The Bridget Jones books. Don't read them if you're a guy though.
I also love Jane Austen books. Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion are the best. :D

East of Eden (for AP English) - I highly suggest it!

I don't read outside of class though.

i second 1984

and although i haven't read any good books lately (soooo much schoolwork) over summer i read A Clockwork Orange. amazing book.

Ruled Britannia by Harry Turtledove

Incredibly fascinating and requires critical thinking. If you get into it you'll love it.

I absolutley must pick up the new Michael Crichton, State Of Fear.

metamorphosis by franz kafka

Ariel by Sylvia Plath, very very good. Then read The Bell Jar.
also recently: The Case of Wagner, not a book per se but the most interesting thing i've read all year, and Anthem by Ayn Rand with whom i do not jibe.

I loved The Bell Jar. I had lots of fun writing a paper on it too.

I second American Gods, good book.

Right now I'm reading Lord of the Flies, which is supposed to be good, but as of yet doesn't seem to be drawing me in too well.

A lot of people recommend Dan Brown books but I've read every single one and I couldn't find one thing I liked about them.

yeah i really didn't like the dan brown books at all... i just read catcher in the rye, it was recommended to me by a friend... that was the best book i've ever read. i also really enjoyed 1984, and CHECK OUT THE DARK TOWER SERIEST BY STEPHEN KING!!!! those books are amazing. they are like a combination of harry potter and lord of the rings and some old western.

The Pianist by Wladyslaw Szpliman. It was just as good as the movie, which was excellent. I guess it should be the other way around, but I saw the movie first.

Sigh, the uneducated masses.

For those who haven't heard of him... Read Chuck Palahniuk. Now.

Many of you may, nay should know him from at least on thing:

Fight Club.

By far the best satirist I have ever read, and is definitely my fav author at the moment. Not for the weak stomach either.

Just finished Carolyn 101 by Carolyn Kepcher. loved it.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel...an awesome book that won the Booker Prize a few years ago

The Da Vinci Code

The Moon is Down by John Steinbeck. Great short read.

I'm trudging through James Joyce's Ulysses right now (my non-school reading).
