HI! Can anyone critique and rate my essay?

Prompt: Do we need other people in order to understand ourselves?

There is a reason why communities or groups exist: To help others as well as help our own selves. By helping others, people are able to understand who they are and grow as a societal person. From my opinion, we need other people in order to understand ourselves because society helps others to understand who they are.
From my experience, by connecting with a tight knit of friends or people, I am able to understand who I am. When I am around with a group of friends, my friends always critique or praise what I do. For example, when they compliment me about how I am such a great runner, I sense confidence in myself that I am a natural runner. I never had the sense that I was a great runner. Furthermore, it helps me to grow as an athletic person because I realize that I was meant to be a competitive runner from the perception of others. Without others, who’s there to tell me what I am doing good or bad at or rather right or wrong?
In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, a group of boys are stranded in an island with no parents or rules, hence losing their innocence and gaining a better understanding of the world. In effect, they create their own rules; however, because they are still young boys, they lack the knowledge in creating successful rules. As a result, the boys become savages and consequently lose their innocence. When authorities rescue those who still survived nearly after a couple of weeks, the boys realize how corrupt they as human beings are. From experiencing the death of their own friend, they came to a conclusion that their lives cannot always be a happy land, but rather a land of corruption and greed.
The responsibility of my parents without a doubt has been the greatest factor in determining who I am. From raising me as a child to censuring me about my report card, they have guided me to become a successful person. For example, my parents enrolled me into a rigorous high school program (IB). Although I opposed my parents’ actions, it has helped me to recognize the potential of what I will become. Without the actions of my parents, there would be no one to guide me in understanding the future plans ahead of me.
In summary, communities, families, clubs, friends, etc… serve as an important part in our society. If people were to live a life of seclusion, then their perceptions of their lives are extremely limited. People have different perceptions and in spreading those perceptions, people are able to gain knowledge and understanding of things that they never could have realized without others.
