<p>Notice what it does not do: “I want to go into medicine because…” Stop! The reader is bored already!</p>

<p>Notice what is does do: It starts out with a very personal, very visual moment. It draws the reader in immediately and helps them feel the same claustrophobic feeling the writer felt.</p>

<p>For the writer of this essay, this was an especially strong memory. You want the admissions people to feel that your essay is memorable? Then you need to start with a moment that is memorable to you.</p>

<p>Also the essay ends with the little “stinger” at the end, designed to make the reader smile. That girl is so admitted!</p>
