Any way to raise a 690 reading to an 800 in 3 weeks?

I have the vocab down... I only miss reading comprehension questions.

I'm not looking for any advice, per se, since I've read enough threads around here to know it all already... just hoping for some inspirational stories :)

(although if there is any particualr advise that anyonbe has, feel free...)

What if I did all the 5 remaining tests that I have in the blue book, as well as the non-test practice probems in critical reading?

Anyone have any idea of the magnitude that might be involved? (Clearly it's different for each person, but very roughly, I'm trying to get an idea of how fast improvement might come)

I wouldn't stress too much about it. Half of the SAT is based on luck, I swear. I went from 690 to 780 in math, no prep in-between or at all. You can know the stuff backwards and forwards and still get a low(er) score if the test decides to screw you over with the 5 questions that you just don't know. My philosophy is to just roll the dice and see what comes up.

souman is totally right about the luck. I consistently scored 770+ (79-80 on grammar) on the writing section on practice tests. However, I got 680 on the real test. It's such a b*tch to retake since I was happy with my other two scores.

njchino371- it's hard to tell with practice tests what scores you'll really get. There are so many other factors to take into account and it really depends what tests you use, I think.

Ack, good luck with your retake! I can't stand the essay part of the writing section...it's so subjective.

I agree with souman. I took the PSATs last year and got a 67 on CR. Then I took the SATs 3 months later and got an 800 on CR. I thought I did so bad after SATs too and I had thought that I had really well on PSATs. Just practice like crazy and be really careful (but still speedy) during the actual test.

I am also preparing for the SAT....I have noticed that I do MUCH better if I leave the test feeling nervous. I did the CR and thought I didn't do that great, but I ended up with a 710. Also, with the Math I consstently scored mid 500's on practice tests and got a 610 (ehhh....). I am firmly convinced it is chance, in that you may get a lot of questions that suit you on one, but not on another.

My goal is to get 750 in CR and 700 in Math (difficult but doable).
