Reading for Literature

Now, I know reading novels and poems isn't necessary for the SAT 2 Literature, but I like reading.

So, can anyone recommend any good authors/poets and their works that can help me boost my score on the test?

The past few months, I've managed to read a few Sherlock Holmes, the Hobbit, Great Expectations, and the Scarlet Letter. I plan on reading Macbeth, Lord of the Flies, and Wuthering Heights next. For poetry, I bought a compilation of Keats and Shelley today ... are they any good for the SAT2?

Thanks for all your help!

I think if you want to get a good score you need to practice ! practice tests...

Obviously...

Like I said above, I read for leisure. So I might as well chose works that ameliorate my score. ;)

So any suggestions?

I just took the Lit test. You are either:

a) A prolific reader already, in which case you need to focus on practice tests and not worry about reading literature

b) not a prolific reader, in which case don't bother trying to pick it up now and don't take the SAT Lit, unless you're planning on taking it 1-2 years from now.

The point I'm trying to make is that being a good reader is a base requirement for Lit, and it has to be "instinct" so to speak. But there is little point in reading for the SAT Lit - I haven't read much decent literature in the last 2 years because I haven't had time (maybe like 1 book in the last 2-3 years) and I believe I aced the test because I took 15 practice tests. Good luck :)

Yeah, he's right... I'm an avid reader but I never took a practice test , so I ended up missing question, cause I got ran out of time... Practice !

OK, so which prep book would you recommend?

Princeton Review, Barron's, or Kaplan's? Which one is best?

All 3. Kaplan has the best practice tests, but Princeton Review's are close as well. Definitely get and read those two

Barron's is good if you want that 800...it's very detailed and has harder tests

OK. Well, yes, I do want that 800. So how would you suggest going about the practice tests?

There are about 25 tests in the three books combined. So, I obviously cannot do them all.

Would you recommend doing Kaplan first, and then Barron's? Or Barron's first and then Kaplan's?

Start with Kaplan, move to Barrons but save the last 4 kaplan tests for the last week of prep
