Reading in Finance?

Hello, I want to get a basic understanding of the finance industry in general, and maybe of I-banking in particular. I am going to start taking classes in them this semester, but can anyone recommend books that I should read to get a foothold on things? I know that I should start reading the WSJ and Economist as much as possible, but are there books out there I can read that can explain for a beginner the things that these publications talk about. ANY recommendations in these or related areas would be great, thanks....

Try the Vault guides. You can download them online. Those are probably the easiest to learn from on your own.

Also, for just a reading, definitely try The Running of the Bulls by Nicole Ridgway. While the book isn't too technical, it's very enjoyable and you'll gain an insight to those Wharton kids who compete for highly-demanding jobs on Wall St.

There's also Liar's Poker by Michael Lewis, Monkey Business by John Rolfe and such...but I suggest that you first try Vault guides to can more familiar with the terms/concepts.
