My daughter did well on both the ACT and SAT but did better on the SAT essay then the ACT essay. I read that W&M does not count the writing section of the SAT - don't know if this is true or not. I would just submit the ACT, but if they count the writing and essay portion (which is what really upped my daughter's SAT score), I would submit both. Does anyone know if they consider the essay portion of either test?

For the SAT, we focus our review on the Critical Reading and Math. We see the Writing score since it’s submitted with the Critical Reading and Math but our focus is on the other two sections.

For the ACT, we do not require the writing score nor do we see it. We see only the composite score.

We evaluate a student’s writing abilities from the Common Application essay rather than a standardized measure like the ACT or SAT.
