Reading Section September ACT

i put childish, as well. That’s correct =)

Alright cool, i kind of had trouble with the 1st passage, i was confused on a couple of the Q’s, but it seems i got them all right, it was pretty difficult, i think i spent 12 minutes on it, but went through the rest pretty fast and had a couple mins left

ok i didnt realize the 7-9 thing…that makes sense.

also did we decide that the narrator expected arnold to be meaner and tougher? b/c i’m prettty sure it was asking what jack predicted about arnold…not what he actually was like.

also–was one of the answers like…"arnold made him feel mad about his inexperiences

alsoooo–one of the questions was…“arnold made jesse feel all of the folllowing except”

i put inexperiences

also, isn’t waht jack predicted about arnold and what jack expected arnold to be the exact same? i think either way it’s meaner and tougher

meaner and tougher. That’s right too

alsoooo–one of the questions was…“arnold made jesse feel all of the folllowing except”
does anyone remember the choices and answer?

lets talk about the second passage!
w/ that one viennese dude

does anyone remember one of the questions was…“arnold made jesse feel all of the folllowing except”
does anyone remember the choices and answer?

dude, I agree with icyfresh. Change topic to the vienna one plzzzzzzz

for the vianemese guy—why did he put it on 465 acres?

was the answer to prevent big business from enroaching on his land?

i put the first one w/ like he wants to copy viennan styles but that was a guess

also, why did he put the mall in the center?

jetts - what were the other choices? was there a choice about having it around parks, etc?

i dont’ remember…i think one of them was like…to adapt the viennamese architectural ways? and i dont remember the other two

OK, the question about strengthen/weaken/no effect is in reference to a single sentence:

“The size of a lion’s mane, the researchers concluded, appears to be a function of elevation and climate.”

As it is worded, the sentence implies that there are only two factors that affect mane size. No mention is made of hormones, and the sentence doesn’t leave open the possibility for other growth factors.

@jamesford

There is no level of exclusivity. It referenced 7-9, but to understand what hormones meant, you actually had to go back to read the passage.

“In addition to” is a pretty strong indicator that there is no contradiction whatsoever.

I feel like I’m just beating a dead horse here, but I concur with jamesford…

“The size of a lion’s mane, the researchers concluded, appears to be a function of elevation and climate.”

Does it even say that a lion’s mane size APPEARS to be hormone-related? No.

I said weakens…and Jamesford on other threads is usually right…I was pretty confident in my answer…he was discussion climate and elevation the WHOLE passage when out of the blue he’s like “oh year hormones can affect it too”
my thoughts “oh really…what else can affect it…cuz you were so sure it was just climate and elevation”

it weakened the conclusion

I don’t think that matters questionmark. Even though the conclusion transitions, the final plug doesn’t pertain to the other causalities the essay dedicates itself to describing.

um, just wondering…for the 4th passage, what letter answers were the majority?
