Please help me out with reading section.I just cant improve on it.Tell me good stratigies how to ace it?Do I have to read all passages?-if yes then i will not have enough time to finish and answer the questions. And please dont tell me to just read the lines and then answer the questions-NOT EVERY SINGLE QUESTIONS GIVES THEM.In fact on the practice test that i took only 18 questions had lines. What about other 22?How can I answer on those?

bump…

okay, so if you think searching for the answer without reading the passage won’t work for you, you don’t have to do it. BUT, i do advise those that DO give you the lines, you just go and hunt for those answers. Especially when you’re crunched for time, those can be relatively easy and quick.

If you don’t have time to read the passage and answer the questions, perhaps practice and pick up your reading speed. For me, I HAD to read the entire passage and then answer the questions. There are some of us who can just skim and find the answers, but somehow, i always manage to find the wrong answers if i did that.

There are 4 passages in about 40 minutes, right? Sorry, I took this last year, and I forget. But, anyway, when you practice, you don’t have to do all four passages… you can take 10 minutes to do one passage and do them every night or so to train yourself.

So use a mixture of these two techniques. And, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. That’s the only way you’re going to get better.

I hope this helped. And GOOD LUCK!!!

Ok…I would suggest practice like all the others…and when I do reading sections in any standardized test, my strategy is this:

I read quickly each section, not in-depth, not skimming - but the right speed (but that is different for everyone I assume). From this I can easily identify the main idea and the main points of the story.

For line reference questions…READ AGGRESIVELY.
which means… that u read the sentence before and after the line reference to ensure you get these questions right because they are easier ones!!

A lot of reading is just from experience…so practice and just reading books has helped me in general.

But I would suggest reading the passage faster the skimming but make sure never to waste time and be COMPLETELY FOCUSED and make sure you know the main idea afterwards and the pont of the passage (same thing, really) and look back for line reference questions. Since it’s four sections in 35 minutes, that gives you…almost 9 mins per—i think a good goal would be reading each sexction in 5-6ish minutes, answering in 3-4ish

but then again thats just me

basically: make sure to get line reference points right and use your judgment on main idea/support detailing questions/whatever by reading the entire section quickly…

i hope this rambling post helped!
