Now I don't come on here too often so I'm by no means an expert on how you guys rate chances but my friend was complaining about how (she had posted a while ago) many people said that she had no chance to the school she wanted to apply to, yet when she looked at the average admission statistics she was slightly above average. At first I just thought she may have just found the wrong data online, so I tried the same thing with the school I want to go to (UCSD). I submitted a thread and while I got no real responses I looked through other people's and found that many who are at or slightly above the average for scores and the like were being told they had no chance. Again people chancing may have been trying to say that they aren't as competitive during the admission process but once I looked up and compared data is seemed like they were at teh average or above. Any reason for this weird separation, or just to each his own rating style?

It may be based on other things, such as extracurriculars, or course rigor. In addition, the UCs calculate their own UC gpa, so you can’t just compare gpas.
