Readmission

I originally started college at a university but failed to maintain the required GPA. I was eventually academically dismissed from the college with a 1.6 gpa and with about 30 credits. My gpa was affected because I was too committed to my job at the time. I took about 3 years off from school before I decided to attend a community college. I am currently attending a community college and will graduate with my associates at the end of this spring semester with a 3.5 gpa. Will I have a fresh start if I re-apply to the original university I attended or will I still have the 1.6 gpa? I am also applying to other schools just in case.

You should call the school and ask about their specific policies on that. It may differ between schools.

Wherever you apply, you will have to provide official copies of that old bad transcript from University1. So the answer is, yes it will have some effect on your admissions chances everywhere. However, you now will have an AA, with a GPA of 3.5 (are you also Phi Theta Kappa?), you are roughly five years older, and you clearly are much more goal-oriented. All of which are factors in improving you admissions options.

Start by contacting the admissions office at University1, and asking about readmission there. Normally when students have academic dismissal, there are specific steps that they are required to take in order to ask for readmission. Only the people at University1 can tell you whether you have completed the steps that they would require.

Wishing you all the best!
