This Thread is to encourage everyone to share their Pre-transfer experiences and difficulties and plans. If anyone has been to the orientation, inputs are also very-welcome!

I am a transfer Student accepted to McCombs for Fall 2009 & Majoring in Corporate/Banking/Investment Finance and Minors in MIS, vice versa (like 'em Both)

I will be attending the transfer orientation on July 6th but I hate the fact how classes are filling up fast (not worried about the classes alone but the choice of picking "Teachers" will be significantly low. I've made my schedule and will ask other to evaluate on a different thread.. you can do the same. I haven't decided on a dorm yet, haven't received any housing contract information, and have NOT found a roommate yet, something I hope do at the orientation (really don't want to end up being assigned with a lowlife). Other than that, just chillin' and working till time comes.

haha. Dude, I’m going to the July 6th orientation as well, and I’m mostly nervous about the professors still available. I have a feeling the advisors dread orientation day (understandable) because of having to deal with so many students, and won’t be very personal.

I’m just ready to start to be honest. I can already feel a little intimidated going from a cc to a room full of top 10% HS graduates and 4.0 transfers, but I’m sure they’re all cool people hoping to have fun in school and make good grades - just like me.

I was watching a TV special on Harvard Business school, and they were saying that most students feel as if they had “snuck” through the admissions process, meaning they felt as if they didn’t belong in such a prestigious school. And that’s exactly how I feel about McCombs, but I’m trying to give myself credit and tell myself that I got in and deserve it.

I’m 100% positive I’ll be business as usual after the first day of class tho.

hellz yea man …screw the elites lol…na but really I feel the same. I was around top 13 percent in high school (didnt do sh**) but worked my arse off in college the first year, especially through calculus. Classes will be tough, that I know, but if they can do it, “I can do it” remember that. Btw, whats your name… I might be able to find someone I know at the orientation lol…I am Ameer

I’m in the same boat as you guys, but I have done NO planning as to what my schedule is going to be. I just hope to speak to an advisor so she can tell me what courses to take, lol. I’m only worried about getting all my prereqs out of the way.

anieo, don’t worry, even though I am a 4.0 transfer I’m just a normal kid. I didn’t even get into UT last year, I got CAPed even when trying to get into Liberal Arts. I just worked hard and got to my desired destination.

Don’t worry about mccombs, the hardest part about it is getting in; after that its cake. Its no where near the difficulty of the other programs on campus so don’t sweat it.

Thats a good question, Im sure someone who has been to the first transfer session could answer that.

I don’t think you can bring anyone. I’m sure they check during sign-in period that there aren’t any strays. But again, I would ask a person who has already been to the first orientation.

Yeah a friend is coming along with me to Austin so he can visit his frat house, which is in Georgetown. Im kinda worried though, barrowing him my car for the whole day while I am at orientation… lol. So it would be best to be able to bring someone along.

anieo > I did attend Collin College (PRC) for my first year after I graduated from Centennial H.S, got accepted with a 3.87 though, not as high as MagicMan’s gpa (lol) but anyways, the number to call is Phone: (512) 471-3304 to find out if you can bring anyone to the orientation. Also, I’ll making a trip every month or every other back to Frisco for a day or two if you wanna come along (we’ll see bout that later).

yaoming > could you go in a little detail when you said its only hard to get into McCombs and a cake party after that lol? I’ve heard many contrary views + hurts my eyes when I glaze over the next three year schedule I made until graduation (its overflowing with finance and minor minor classes + those stupid general studies crap). No criticizing here …just trying to value your opinion more. thx.

And Guys I am also Planning on making a website or like a forum so everyone who is going to McCombs who needs a Roommate can browse through and select (offcouse people will have to register)…and I’ve got everyone’s email so I just need to send em the email to the link of site…you guys think its a good idea or waste of time and I should just wait till the orientation day and meet someone there…? Ideas, suggestions…

Thanks for that number NTX. Looks like I’ll have to tell the gf to find something else to do. They don’t prefer people sitting in due to limited seating.

And this was kind of a shocker. The guy said just 600 people are registered for the orientation school wide (not just McCombs). So there’s probably less than a 100 there for McCombs. I expected many more

Only 90 external transfers were admitted last year in 2008 and only 80 planned to attend. So I am guessing you could add in 60 more internal transfers making it around 160 transfers students. There were two transfer student orientation I think and most of the external transfers most likely will be attending the July 6th one because admission lady said most didn’t had enough credit hours and heard admission decision late. So its gotta be less than a 100 or around 60 or 70 (especially because some students turned away from business after the economy collapse, which is “hopefully” dumb of them later on).

Anieo > who/how are you going to Austin …car bus plane? My parents don’t wanna go & I don’t wanna drive alone all the way (I’ll put up another thread bout that).

@Nxt: I’ll be driving down with the girlfriend. I’d be more than willing to let you ride to split gas, but as of now (plans may change) I’m actually planning a Sat-Tue trip. If you’re interested let me know, if not I’ll let you know if anything changes.

yea I am trying to get at least my father to go if not the whole family. I got work on Monday and Tuesday 12 pm - 6 pm and I was thinking about taking off on Monday but wasn’t sure about Tuesday (cz I just started work there…idk think they’ll be fine long as i work extra that week later on). Far as right now, I am broke. By July 6th, I’ll have around $100-200 bucks saved up for the trip, etc. Where are you planning on staying if u plan a Sat - Tue Trip. If not car, I was thinking a $70 two way bus ticket but guess car would still be cheaper and convenient. If I go, I rather sleep in car if I bring one, y pay for 6-8 hour sleep …just my kinda thinking (maybe cz i m going into finance lol)…btw what major are u going into or got admitted in for

I tried registering for the June 15th one two weeks before. It was closed which probably means it was full so I dunno. I think its going to be an even split.

Just relax. If you go to orientation, the basic business classes will be available for you to register.

They specifically save spots for transfer students for certain classes.

Now as far as cake walk goes? It really depends on the classes you take and the professors you have. You also have to consider what he considers good straight B’s? or straight A’s. I don’t think the classes are too hard if you have good business sense and are willing to work hard. But keep in mind I went to a really really tough high school where the top 10% were 4.7-4.8 GPA’s and we sent over 20 students to Ivy Leagues. (troy High school fullerton if your really curious)

Anyways that is my take. (Mccombs Finance and Accounting Major GPA 4.0 for now)

If you have any other questions ask, and I’ll try to answer.

PS: I pity you if you get Juanita as an advisor I have her and she is worthless.

do parents usually come along in the transfer orientation? are they required to or optional? How many usually come? They just wanna look around the dorms so will there be a guide if they just walk in anytime during the day on Monday
