real life extracurricular more important than grades?

does anyone here think extracurriculars can actually exceed grades?

i'm applying to transfer to cornell HE and due to family stuff-- my mom hospitalized right during exam week-- my GPA isn't that hot. i had a 3.3 for fall but I'm at 3.6~7 now. extracurricularly, however, this year i've self published three books of poetry, and baron wormser the poet lauriate of maine is one of my readers, and, also, when my mom got sick i took an extended spring break to run our family business (a 5 star restaurant) by myself. thoughts?

I personally do not think so, because there are so many qualified applicants with BOTH stellar grades and awesome extracurricular stuff.

However, for Cornell I think you will have a very decent shot. What are your SATs like?

if you didn't put that info in the "add'l info" section of your app, i would send them a letter or something.

1470 and graduated high school cum laude (i'm applying for sophomore transfer btw)

oh... and i ought to add that i was actually accepted once to cornell, but to a different college. i deposited but had to withdraw my place in the middle of summer because of sudden family extenuating circumstances

I am not sure if I can answer, I just wanted to ask you to post the outcome of your transfer campaign because your story is fairly interesting.

I reckon you will get in :P.
GL!

yeah, i think you have a great shot

They look at the whole package. If you told them why you had to bail the last time, and put that in the app this time, you will be just fine.

hehe, my package is definitely interesting. for the academic interest essay (applying as human development) i talked about how my sibling coming home mentally distressed sparked my interest, and then how, in my mad scramble to get to college that costs less after i had to withdraw from cornell, i ended up living two miles away from campus with... a schizophrenic who once trashed her house. that's hands on experiance for you!

Either you have had a very colorful life or you have pseudologica fantastica. I hope that tyou are being sincere about everything... Good luck.

well... i don't know what pseudologica means but i'll take the hint from pseudo. and believe me, everything i say is true. the woman i live with now comes from a family of schizophrenics, and i thought i was hearing things when she started to tell me stories about how her mother tried to kill her as a baby... and how she has to suppress a need to kill her own son sometimes. needless to say, i try to be out of the house quite early in the mornings...
