Real vs. Practice

I've been getting around a 30~ on the ACT practice tests from the Red Book. Will my score on the real thing be higher or lower? Im trying to get a guesstimate of what my score might be

it will be about 30 ~ since u have been practicing w/ past act tests.

I would go with a 31 - I got 32's on all my practice tests and got a 33 on the real one,.

You will usually be 1-2 points lower with your averaged score on practice tests (b/c of nerves on the real thing).. but sometimes, it's not like that -- sometimes you'll be right on or maybe slightly higher.

before i took my first ACT i got a 29, 31, and 32 on my practice tests (about a 31 average) and got a 30 composite on my first test... on the last test that i studied for, i got 33's and 34's on my practice tests and a 35 composite on the real thing.. so usually, the practice tests are relatively close if not dead on (esp. if you use the red book)

The Red Book tests, while real, are outrageously easier than the actual tests being produced today.

<- easy 34s on each Red Book test (with more than sufficient time left over for reading and science)

<- 31, 32 on the past two REAL ACTs (with a serious struggle against the clock)

Best of luck!

Thats a lie. I got a 34.25 on the red book and i got a 35.5 on the real thing. They are a fairly good estimate. Nothing is ever exact. Being off 1-2 points is to be expected.

^ A lie? Pretty sure I know what my results were.

Several of my friends have also been working out of the Red Book, and they also agree the tests are easier than the real ones being produced today.

The evidence I proposed earlier, while anecdotal, was not necessarily proposed to support my claim about the Red Book being easier, but rather to give the OP an idea of how I scored in relation to the Red Book tests.

I think, though, that many would argue the science sections being administered today are more challenging.

"The Red Book tests, while real, are outrageously easier than the actual tests being produced today."

They aren't outrageously easier at all.. you make the real act book sound like mcgraw-hill... my first real act score was just about what my practice tests were in the red book..

^ Yes, I read your post before.

Clearly it's far too demanding to compare the difficulty of the tests without resorting to numbers. I mean, it's not like the conditions - and the mindsets that accompany those conditions - are different when the real test is taken.

i am sure that the tests may have gotten slightly harder over the past few years (because the real act books are older tests.. back about 4-5 years, right?)

i guess i was just one of those people who did equally the same on the red book and on the real thing.. others do either considerably worse or considerably better in some cases

How comparable are the Official 06-07 ACT Practice Prep Test that they had on their website? Is it easier? Is it the same? What?

"A lie? Pretty sure I know what my results were. "

When I said its a lie, I was obviously talking about your scores and not the statement that the red book is "outrageously easier than the actual tests."

The red book is similar to the real thing. I felt that the sections were about the same, if not a little harder. Each person may feel different, but no way is it outrageously easier than the real thing.
