Realistic College Choices

Hey all, I was wondering if you could read through my grades and such and help me determine what realistic colleges I should be looking at.

Major: Business (most likely)
GPA: 3.9
Weighted GPA: 4.9
Top 9% of class
ACT: 32
Varsity soccer letter for 2 years
Member of National Honor Society, Young Men’s Service League, and DECA.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I just need any opinions on where I should be focusing my efforts at. Thanks!

Are you a junior? What state, and will you need financial aid? Any other preferences in terms of college size, location, community, etc.?

I am a junior. I live in Texas but would not mind going out of state, would most likely need financial aid. I woukd prefer to attend in an urban environment, close to a big city perhaps. Do not really want to go to a school up north, I really dislike the cold! I would not mind attending a large school either, but a smaller one is preferable.

What’s the GPA scale in your school. What was your PSAT score?

Unweighted is out of 4.0, weighted is out of 5.0, not sure if that is what you meant. My PSAT score was a 1390, which is equivalent to about a 2100 on the old SAT.

Obviously TAMU. If your rank gets better then UT (last I heard it was the top 7-8% for automatic admit).

With your GPA and rank, you should get into all Texas schools but Rice and UT Austin. If your course rigor is good then may be Austin too. Our district’s IB diploma diploma holders with high ACT were accepted in UT though they ranked in 25%

University of Alabama comes to mind for you. Good luck & aloha.

Try using the Supermatch function (on the left under Find A College)

Trinity U has a very strong business school, is in TX, is in a city (San Antonio), is small (2500 students) and would give great merit aid to a kid with your stats ($21K/yr). Seems to meet all of your criteria.

Are you low income? “needing financial aid,” doesn’t mean a lot because your family may not qualify …or they may not qualify for the amount that they want.

how much will they pay each year?

What’s your EFC?
These schools give pretty good aid:

-St Edward’s University
-St. Mary’s University
-University of Dallas
-University of St. Thomas
-UT Dallas
