Realistic Goals to Have?- Ivies, MIT, etc.

I was curious to see if schools like the Ivies or MIT are really realistic goals to have. There's such a low percentage of accepted students that I wonder if it is worth it to go all in. Even with decent scores, and above-average ECs is it worth visiting these colleges, and devoting much time, pressure, and stress? I've also searched many places on the Internet, and I am curious about first-hand knowledge of the types of students that are accepted AND denied to these schools.

I’ll probably apply to Cornell, PSU Schreyer (I’ll visit PSU anyway so no extra effort) and maybe one other really selective school but that’s it. For me, at least, it’s not worth bothering for such a low chance. It’s worth noting though that I don’t have the amazing ECs many that apply to these places do.
