Essays: I’m a fairly decent writer so my essays should be pretty good.

Teacher Recommendation: Very good recommendations

Counselor Rec: Very good recommendation

Additional Rec: I might get one from my AP US History teacher from sophomore year (who went back to college). He graduated from Harvard and likes me a lot…

Other

Region (if domestic applicant): NJ

School Type: Medium sized public school (circa 800 kids) - doesn’t send kids to Ivies often.

Ethnicity: Korean-American

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation for 4 year college, low income ($40,000)

Your grades are perfect.

EC’s are outstanding.

Taekwondo is amazing =D

I’d say you are more than qualified, but then again, no one is ever a lock for Ivies.

By the way, Korean-American is not really a URM…URMs are like… Native Americans/Hispanics/African-Americans I’m pretty sure…not entirely.

And also, it seems like you are involved in a LOT of stuff.
So maybe…have more clear focuses?

Also, 4-year college 1st Generation doesn’t really count for anything if your parents attended any type of college at all…

1st-Gen is when either parent has gone past high school level education.

You have just as good of a chance as anyone else. I can tell you that my test grades were almost all lower than yours (CR was 650 for me). The only thing that’s really going against you is your region and your ethnicity (which were my biggest obstacles too, I’d say), and there’s nothing you can really do about that! So good luck. :)

Do you do ITF Taekwon-do, or W T F? (out of curiosity)

*** TKD. Thanks for the replies, guys.

The Taekwon-do group at Brown is W T F, if you’re interested in continuing :)

Oh wow, that’s very cool. I’ll do some more research on it…

I pretty much had the exact same application as you (different class rank, but my high school school is super competitive) and I was accepted. I’d say you have over a 50% shot at least (my guess is 60% chance…you never know with top schools these days though).

Thanks admitone, that gives me hope =)

Quite the resume you’ve built up. It must have come at a heavy cost.

I have to doubt whether or not you are actually human though. I mean, varsity tennis, valedictorian, fourth degree black belt, piano/clarinet extraordinaire, teaching assistant, chess club, class president, math league, and you’re in the marching band…? I’m laughing as I type this.

You’re unreal. Send me a PM if you ever come to Brown. I want to meet you in person.
