Realistically, how many AP classes can I self study in a year? 2? 3? 4?

Hi, currently I am an eighth grader considering self studying a few AP classes for the exam during my freshman year. My school does not allow freshman to take AP classes, and sophomores can only take AP bio (Will probably take). I am thinking about self studying AP Environmental Science (My school does not offer) and AP statistics (My school does offer, but I will most likely not have space to take later on). Assuming I can start studying mid-May, leaving me about a year to study, could I add another exam or two? I am thinking about AP psych, an AP Economics course, or AP world history (I will take World History Honors, so it would compliment it). Would this be possible? I know my parents and school would allow it. Also, I am qualified to take online AP classes through Johns Hopkins CTY, so would it be good for AP stats?

I don’t know what you want to major in or what your best subject is, but I would go with self studying AP Environmental Science and AP Stats. I would only self study two at most. These are two simple exams that you could probably ace. If you really wanted, you could add AP Psychology to the list, although at my school my AP Psychology teacher is amazing and the class is easy so I chose to take the class. Good luck!

Why does your school limit AP access like that? Have you actually discussed the options with a HS counselor? You may find that if you have a valid reason and proof of capability, that APs might be open to you in freshman year. Especially if this is a public school.

@Sybylla Although I did not ask/talk to a HS counselor, my high school has a fairly rigid system for classes for freshman year. We are required to take a math class (algebra 1, geometry honors or standard, or algebra and half the geometry class concurrently as an accelerated class, which I will take), a language class, world history(honors or standard- no AP, even later), biology (honors or standard- take AP later), and English (honors or standard- take AP junior or senior). This, with the required health and gym classes, leaves me only space for one elective. So I do not have any way to try to replace, say, world history for AP Psych.

Are you an exceptional student? If the answer is yes, then ask, don't assume. Health and gym can't be done in summer or online? That is pretty common.
