Colleges I plan to Apply to:

Cornell University (ed)

University of Rochester

New York Univeristy

WPI, RPI, Stevens

RIT (safety), The College of New Jersey (safety), NJIT (safety uggg)

obvious stretches (not even a reach) Columbia (fu foundation school of engineering), Princeton, Dartmouth

i would say great chance at cornell, great rank, don't worry, ED=acceptance :)

Are you going to retake the SAT's? Your class rank is very good.

I think you need to retake the SATs and put a lot of effort into raising them. I think the top schools will especially have an issue with your math score for your intended major, so really focus there.

get your math score above 700 and I think you have a good chance at cornell.

Your involvement is good, and you rank is excellent. Cornell might be willing to overlook SAT's as it is indeterminate whether or not they measure anything(!). Your leadership may be lacking, but then again, for comp sci you don't exactly have to be president of every club. I'd say Cornell is a possibilty, U of R and NYU are stronger.

What should I apply for safetys? -
Is villanova any good for comp sci?

Yes, Villanova is surprisingly good in the CS/Engineering area. But you should seriously ask yourself if a 95% catholic school is the right place for you.

You're practically in at all of those technical institutes, but again you should ask yourself if you want to be at more of a trade-type school.

You might be happier in a state-school's CS department or at a Liberal Arts college's CS department. Do you want to go straight into a job as a programmer (a market shifting towards India) or would you like a more academic route?

My impression of your choices is as follows:

Cornell: top-notch academic
Princeton: top-notch academic
Dartmouth: academic
Fu: mixed
URochester: academic
NYU: academic, mathematical?
WPI/RPI/Stevens/RIT/NJIT: applied
TCNJ: tight-knit, academic?

Allegheny College has a very good CS program - might check them out, too. It is a very nice college - would be considered a lot 'hotter' if it were in the NE.

Have you taken your SAT II's yet?

Not yet but I plan on doing so in the fall: probally math IIc and literature.

@trout I plan on pursuing a md before getting a job. As for comp sci, I want to follow a tract in either computer security (or software encryptions) or software engineering.

Finally do you think I should try the ACTs to see if I do better.

The ACT's might be worth a try - especially as you don't have to send them. I would suggest picking up a prep book and taking a practice test. If you do as well as with your SAT's - and the test annoys you less, that might be the one to work on. From what I understand, timing is pretty important in the ACT. If you can march right through it with a bit of prep, it may work out well.

bump..............

Try this.... www.cga.edu And check it out, if you're not opposed to the military then you should really consider it. It's one of the top 15 in the country and it's 100% free, plus you get a monthly stipend and all that. It's what I'm looking into lol.

Only two AP classes, pretty easy schedule then. You're SAT scores are very very low. I don't think you have a chance.

Don't be so cold atomic... He has a chance if he gets his scores up, and they're actually not THAT bad. I only made 50 higher than him overall and I have all the schools around here BEGGING me to come to them. And to think, my grades absolutely suck.

Atomic, SAT is not the most important thing. More important than a test you take is how you perform in actual classes.

Adan...you've got schools begging with a 1940? That's the most ridiculous thing i've heard all week. The only people who say SAT is not the most important thing are those who do badly. No way for Cornell with your SAT score Insane, even with ED. HOWEVER, if you do manage to raise it past 2100, then you'd have a good chances because your GPA and ECs are pretty solid.

I agree with atomicfusion. Your SAT scores are really, really low, and it's practically impossible to raise 300 points in 3-4 months... You should take ACT and SAT II's this fall and see how that works out.

Yes sup, I do have schools begging. USC (south carolina) and Coastal Carolina... But they suck, though. Anywho that was only the first time I took the SAT so I'll get my scores up when I take it again. I'll take it once later in the summer and once in the fall and maybe take the ACT as well. I'll be fine. And just so you know, I scored in the top 10 percent in my school on it. So...

Why are these schools begging you to come to them with a 1940 when you're a junior??? Insane, you don't stand a chnce at Cornell unless you raise your SATs a solid 150+ points, best of luck

Original poster, get your SAT I scores up (2100 at least), and you have a good chance at your chosen schools. Otherwise, it's going to be real tough.
