I was surprised too, before receiving my acceptance letter, but now i am not.
I am a person, not a bunch of numerical value associated with a person. 1500, who cares? yay the person is good at taking a test, get over SAT’s people, they dont matter half as much as you think. The people on this site disgust me, and I am surprised that SAT obsessed people actually exist.
1350 is the 25th percentile at duke. the people on this site wonder why they dont get in with 1550? I can tell them.
have a soul, be a person, not a robot, have a life, care about something other than SAT’s.
-Good luck to all of you that have been put down on this site b/c of low scores, they dont mean half as much as you think.
IM me to argue if you want, Mr. “no man u wont get into duke 1440 is too low”, but you will not win this one.
keep in mind my name is phil, not 1350, and I am a person, not a robot

Why would you ask him if he's joking. He is being serious about this. I really think that the "What are my Chances" thread should be eliminated. Who out there should be able to judge us by just our numbers. Well said, Phil.

yes, i kno what 25th percentile means, and that is my point completely.. people on this site think numbers alone get a person into college, and that you have to be above the range to get in.

if you are a lifeless loser that never leaves the house perhaps u have to have above the range....

My name is Larry. I'm a person. Not a robot.

Thanks for sharing the info. I sort of knew that colleges are trying to see how "human" one is. A good friend who went to Harvard told me that , in almost the exact words, several years before I started applying. Best place to unveil these traits are through your essays and ec's and recs. ( and possibly your test scores)

Congratulations on getting into Duke engineering!

Congrats and I agree that there is a lot of bad advice being dispensed here. While I will not agree that numbers are not a strong element, a great application or a terrible one can wipe out the advantage or disadvantage very quickly.

**** nice job man...................i like duke too...........but
"all i got is a 1420 and 3.6 uW".......were you like an athlete/URM/Major ECer or just had dominant essays/recs????
If it's the latter.........that's awesome because it gives hope to us all

hey congrats! duke really isnt one of my choices, but its on the same caliber as the schools im applying to. i hope you dont mind, but what do you think got you in? :)

I'm afraid you don't understand what I meant. Anyone with a 1350 obviously has the credentials to make it anywhere. =/ When I FIRST read your post, it had little credibility due to this. However, you make good points.

I agree with your speech. In fact, I'm a living testament to what you're talking about. My score was TRULY average (50th percentile nationwide) but I wrote a really articulate, off-the-wall essay that showed my passion for the subject I wish to study and my ability to think outside the box. And now I'll (hopefully) be entering a class where at least 75% of students will have a higher score than mine but it doesn't matter: the admissions committee placed their faith in my intuition.

Congratulations on your acceptance and I wish you the best of luck, but please remember that several have scored lower on the test and may take this somewhat offensively.

I hope nobody does take it offensively, I am ridiculing the people that say 1440 or 1460 is not good enough, OUCH 670 VERBAL OMG U ARENT GOING ANYWHERE IN LIFE!

Like i said above, i think my parttime job got me in.

that's awesome phil...................i wish worked at an engineering company(i like bioengineering)............but my major ec's are varisty XC, varsity track, coaching, eagle scout, and volunteering.........all things that point to "Leadership and liberal arts".......not hard core bioengineering =(........man this sucks....they SEEM totally unrelated and now i prolly seem UNfocuzed
