Reality TV

I think that reality TV is the worst thing that could have ever happened to the world. It's pointless and exploits people's sorrows/ambitions/social and financial status.
some of the shows are okay like so you think you can dance. but most of them really suck.

Here are a few of them: (not the really famous ones though)
The Swan: a show where they take advantage of middle aged women's appearance and cut them up and ake them look like super models. It's disgusting

Survival of the richest: a stupid show where they pair up a poor person and a rich person and make them labor in the hot sun and work their asses off for 200 000 dollars. It's pathetic

Skating with celebrities: a copy of So you think you can dance (only this is on ice) so this one isn't that bad. but I still think that these sort of copetitons are just to exploit young talented people.

House Swap and SuperNanny: The name says it all.

I could go on forever but my fingers hurt. I watched one episode of each and could not look at the TV another second.

do you like or dislike the idea of reality TV? Has it done any good or just wasted valuabe time? Is it worth spending the money on to make or should it be spent on something more usefull?

I dislike it. Although I must admit when I scroll the channels I cant help but watch. I really hate the MTV and VH1 shows like flavor of love and real world. Its like, lets get some old guy and pair him up with some chicks so he can "test" them out to see which is right for him. He thinks hes finding "love" but hes actually finding a bunch of skanks ready to suck up his bank account. And the real world is all drama and is like "we must have perfect ratios of gay to lesbian to black to southern white to hispanic to goth." it makes me sooo sick!

some of the shows are horrible yet irresistable to watch. but i fought hard and now never watch them.
anyone else?

i watch them, not gonna lie. i admit most of them suck horribly, but hey, what e'se would be on? crappy sitcoms and drama series. all of these shows are fake and don't teach the viewer anything, so might as well have crap that people are going to guiltily watch.

Some of them have gone too far I think, but I love and am hopelessly addicted to American Idol and am damn proud of it. =P It really does a good job at producing some successful people, though, and I love watching it.

wasn't there a show a little while back where they got a bunch of people eating bugs and competing to get a US Green card? I vaguely remember something like that. Was there really a show like that or am I halucinating.

I have no idea. I like Amazin Race alot. It isn't like the other reality shows. Doesnt have all that fake drama

but do they really travel the whole distance? It doesn't seem real to me for some reason.

The magic of tv editing.

it is magical.

which reminds me, what is to stop the editting guys from editting the tapes to make it ore interesting. I mean, just change a few things to spice it up. I'm sure they do that. And that makes it nothing close to "reality" it's just a twisted version of a normal TV show.

Well thats what they have to do. i remember watching some of the first Big Brother episode. It was extremely boring . Im surprised it made it this far.

I hate that show. They tried to make a copy of it here..and as I had expected, after nearly 3 weeks of advertising and the insane media coverage, it was cancelled after 1 week.
Those few episodes were more boring than watching my 2 year old cousin as she drooled in her sleep for hours.

LOL..."My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" was definitely one of those...anyone remember that show? Very entertaining, felt like I was going to hell for watching it.

Anyway I agree for the most part. It does exploit people's problems for profit, and even many of those people are just actors. Reality television is a fad, but more importantly it's a cash cow for the TV networks, and yadayadayada

But damn I just can't stop watching them!!

Hmmm... I'm not big on reality TV. I don't really watch much of it except Laguna Beach.

I used to watch Fear Factor every week routinly for like 3 years, but then my homework got the best of me.

Now I watch a few shows at night on the WB (CW soon!): One Tree Hill and Supernatural and thats it. I also try to watch the reruns of Laguna beach because unlike most CCers I am sleeping at 10 on school nights (not still up) because I like atleast 7 hours of sleep.

So yeah, reality TV is a waste of time, but as long as people keep watching it and taking part of it (nothin's better then money and fame) they are gonna keep producing them.... which might I add SUCKS!

I've never seen that show, but it sounds like a waste of TV air time and everyone else's.
One that really ***es me off is "Starting Over". it makes me want to throw the TV out of the window.
Thw women on the show are like: "Ugh! *tears sniff I...crying like hell can't do this!! huge sniff + tear I'l never know how to make Pasta."

is it just me or is that so incredibly annoying.

Can't disagree there...it was one of those "prank" shows. They had this woman scam her family into thinking she was marrying this guy who was scamming her into thinking he was this annoying freespirit...

And what the hell is "Starting Over" all about. I saw half an episode of that two years ago. Is that one of those "spiritual rebirth" shows that housewives like to watch??

argh

yeah. a bunch of middle aged women in one house crying their asses off because of how they "wasted their lives" and "needed to start them over"
